My grandma won’t take me to the ER and I feel like I should go. Now I’m contemplating whether I should call an ambulance or not.
3 days ago I went to the ER because I was having severe pain in my upper abdomen. The doctor told me that I was severely constipated and that I needed to do a magnesium citrate clean out. So, I drank 2 bottles in an hour. I went to the bathroom non-stop all day and night. Now, today, I feel that the pain is getting worse and I’m experiencing more symptoms. I have stabbing pain in my upper abdomenr, pain when I breathe, I can’t sit nor lay down, and I have to take shorter, faster breathes in order for my chest not to hurt. You may think that I need to call 911 because of the breathing problem but I feel that I don’t need to because I’m used to it. This has been going on for 3 days.

Maybe call 911 because you might have drank more than what you should’ve? I’m not a doctor just seems like its better to be safe than sorry in this situation

This talks about symptoms of taking too much magnesium.
Other articles tell me 400mg is the max for the citrate stuff.
Maybe call poison control? If you really are unsure about calling 911 or an ambulance? I know it’s not a poison but maybe they can still help since 2 bottles seems like a lot to me, but I will repeat myself, I am not a doctor.
My advice:
Check the labels on the bottles and if you took more than you should’ve, call poison control, explain your symptoms and amount you took, then follow their advice.\
I think I’ve drank that before and I was only told to drink 1 cup.
Go to a doc-in-a-box. Much cheaper!
Maybe you could take an uber or taxi to the emergency room, since going seems to be should I should I not kind of thing. Ambulances cost. How old are you?
The amount of magnesium citrate isn’t alarming to me; I’ve had that much within a few hours before. Just my nonprofessional opinion.

I agree with getting an Uber or Taxi to the ER. I’m no doctor either, but if it was me, that’s what I would do. Just going by the information you gave.
First off, Welcome to Fluther. Secondly, and more importantly, my rule of thumb is “unknown, persistent shooting pains mean a trip to the ER. It might be too much of the laxative, it might be a pulled muscle, it might be something more serious. Go.
