Has anyone showed restraint when encountering a perfect rib roast ?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24892points) November 14th, 2019

When you had the money, and not bought it? 4 years ago the meat department at my local grocery store had a perfect rib roast for $80, and I didn’t buy it.

We’ve had a Christmas bone-in Prime rib, it was a couple of years ago and it cost $120.

It was delicious!

Living by myself & having only one immediate family member still living, I don’t have the need for a rib roast no matter how perfect it is, so I can’t claim I use restraint when I choose to NOT be greedy!!! After all, there are millions of hungry kids in China who would love to just taste it.

Yes, but it doesn’t mean I don’t drool .

I guess so. Many, many, many times. I would never buy one, or eat a rib roast.

What is a rib roast?

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Ah. Prime rib. Got ya.

Now I’m starving for prime rib and McD French fries!

Have you regretted not buying it for all this time? Can you trust your meat department to duplicate it?

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@stanleybmanly My stores have the good prime rib only on holidays.

So you will be ready this Christmas? Are we to understand that you receive this roast decked out and ready for your oven? You roast it yourself?

stanleybmanly's avatar

@Dutchess_lll I’m surprised that YOU think you don’t know what a crown roast is or why it is called that. Google up a picture. Bet you recognize it.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

I had just never heard to it referred to as a “roast” Stanlyman. I’ve heard of prime rib of course.

There was a place in Chicago that would ship you a perfect roast in ice all ready for the oven, replete with cloves, mint and bay leaves, the works. I can’t remember the name of the outfit. It’s another of the fuzzy but wonderful memories from my youth. Anyone else know of the place?

stanleybmanly's avatar

So strange. I put crown roast into this conversation without realizing I’d done so. It must be that the mention of “rib roast ” drags up memories.

RDG LadyMarissa has a valid point. A crowd is required for so sumptuous a banquet. Can you arrange one, and get others to bring wine, fixins, soda & desserts?

Dutchess_lll's avatar

I’ll bring desserts, @stanleybmanly, to her party. I know I kinda suck as a woman but when pressed I can make dessert.

There is absolutely no question about YOUR ability to gather a crowd. I’m wondering if anything other than the expense might prohibit RDG from attempting the feast.
