From WebMD:

“Esomeprazole is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems (such as acid reflux, ulcers). It works by decreasing the amount of acid your stomach makes. It relieves symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough.

This medication helps heal acid damage to the stomach and esophagus, helps prevent ulcers, and may help prevent cancer of the esophagus.

My mom was prescribed Nexium for nausea control with chemo.

@zenvelo I didn’t get a notification.
Ok. It’s not Nexium, that’s a brand name. It is Esomeprazole. And difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough are other conditions that it would releive.
I guess sometimes instructions on the product only say Nexium 40 mg., no mention Esomeprazole. What if some people want to go with another brand, (maybe there was no generic) The Do not chew or crush. sticker is only at the back of the product, not on where there is your name address take it this way or that.

@KNOWITALL nausea control with chemo, ok. I was at their website and there is no search engine dedicated to their site. And Googling just talks about heartburn, I think.

@flo Yep, it works pretty well, too.

Nexium Study To Suppress Nausea During Chemotherapy (NEXIUM) Brief Summary: ... Esomeprazole may help protect the gut lining from the stomach acid and thus lessen the nausea and vomiting. If patients have less stomach sickness, they may be able to enjoy their daily routines much more while they are getting chemotherapy.

You really should read the insert that comes with it rather than depending on QnA answers. Nexium is a drug that controls stomach acids.

@KNOWITALL for sure.

I see here: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/247873.php#1
“Nexium, or esomeprazole,”
“or” but Nexium is is the name of the brand Esomeprazole is not.

Esomeprazole would be the generic name for the drug: Nexium is the brand name. They would be used the same way for the same symptoms.

@zenvelo and @KNOWITALL It sounds like it’s “Use as needed”, kind of medication then.

@flo Yep probably a general anti-nausea for many things.
I have two friends with Menieres I believe take it, too.

Apprently the prescription said “take for 2 or something weeks.” I’m wondering maybe there is yet another purpose for it.
