So, what's in your Christmas shopping cart?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47049points) November 23rd, 2019

Lord, I have 11 grand kids to buy for.

What I have so far is This hand controlled drone (I want to get 4 of them, actually.)

A cute, 1 gallon portable shop vac for my 4 year old grandson who LOVES the shop vac!

And a woodburning kit for my son because I think he’d like it.

A gift for myself. Not sure if I can pull it off though due to family duties. Lol It’s a Black Magic 6K Pocket Camera.

A Peppa Pig family play house and Peppa Pig figures, complete with Grandpa Pig and Grandma Pig are on their way to my granddaughter. The Paris kids will get money which is what their parents want me to send.

We usually send money to the adults, (2 sons, three grown grandkids, 2 sisters), and clothes, fruit, and toys for the two little ones . This year we are getting a laptop on a half price sale for one of the boys.

Nothing yet, and it was going to be nothing for the season, but I just realized yesterday I might have to buy Christmas gifts because we are going to my in-laws around Christmas time.

My sister bought Airpods for the good twin and her husband. So I bought them AppleCare for those since it is cheap.

For the not so good twin I am going to get her a skydiving ticket. That might sound evil but I am going to do it too. I love her but we have problems. Figured it would be a good bonding experiment. Christmas 2014 I was joking around and called her a elegant giraffe. She is tall and slender and was always having trouble walking.

She was also into making beats and recording the rap songs. But she was having computer trouble and so I backed up her computer to a external and reinstalled Windows and put everything back. I’m actually very proud of this since I worked hard to get them into British telly. I started with Skins, and Misfits. Now they are hooked. But I found out she recorded a rap song called My uncle is a cunt. I was proud and slightly dismayed. But six years later I am still trying to bond with her. So skydiving.

Bought my sister a $1200 fridge in august so if she expects a c-mas gift she is delusional.

My sisters oldest son. The smart one. He is getting married in September. He lives in Arizona and they were looking for a venue. The woman he is marrying is loaded and older than his mom.

Her family is rich.. Our side is the opposite. So there was the discussion of who would have the means to fly where where and afford hotels. So instead of spending the 20K getting a venue down there that most of his friends/family wouldn’t be able to attend they are dumping that cash into fixing up my sisters place and having the wedding here. My sister lives on nearly a acre and everything is covered in massive trees. His future wife wants a “glam wooded fairy” wedding. Our backyard will be perfect. And sweat equity for my sister. But it will be a dope place for a wedding. I just spent a fortune on woodworking stuff so I will help make the wedding be magical.

My mom.. We don’t really do gifts.

The adults in our family stopped giving gifts years ago, and for the few kids either money in a card or the wife will get them something.

So I’m not a bad person to just want to bail out of this gift giving shit thing? It’s too much.

@Dutchess_III I’ve cut way back from what I used to spend when my sons lived at home – and I was married with a brother in law who always came.

One thing I started with my sons some years ago was giving to charity in their honor and now I do that for my grandchildren in addition to relatively small gifts.

I’m tired of the hype.

I like to get small kids a gift, but as they get older money works great because they choose what they want, adults mostly have what they want, and for myself if I need something I will just get it, I would much rather just do a get together with the family and enjoy the company if anything bring a bottle of the good stuff for everyone to enjoy.

Me too @janbb. Me too. And we have several kids whose birthdays are around this time.

My daughter is middle-school age and us moms were just talking about how it’s hard to get them gifts because not only is this a tough age to buy gifts for but these kids get stuff all year long. Phones, clothes, if they need anything they get it any time of the year. My daughter wanted to see Aladdin so last night we both went. That was about 300 + for the two tickets, plus train ride to the city (NYC), which was 60 dollars round trip for two. She asked me for Uggs the other day so I ordered a pair on Costco.com. That was 150, which is probably a bargain. Usually I have been buying her the Costco generic sheepskin boots which are about 30 but I didn’t see them this year. If we’re in the store and she asks for some clothes, I get them. If I am in the store by myself and I see clothes she needs, or online, I get them. Some clothes I bought her recently on Costco.com I will save for Christmas, and I will wrap the Uggs up and give them to her early and tell her they’re a Christmas gift. I will probably get her a few other things. I’m not sure what.

I have a small family and a few friends that I exchange gifts with. I really don’t need anything but a few of my friends insist on giving gifts and so I have to get them something in return. One of my friends, when I asked her last year if she still wanted to exchange gifts, told me she really looks forward to our exchanging. I take that to mean I am kind of stuck doing it, but I really don’t need anything and if I do, I buy it for myself. I have so many clothes I am trying to get rid of them, and I have so much jewelry that I don’t buy any more. I need a new handbag but I wouldn’t ask someone to get it as I want certain things and so it’s a personal decision.

Other than that, I have maybe some teachers if my daughter wants to give to them, plus maybe some of her friends. I have to ask her to make a list because the Christmas shopping season is short this year and so we have to start thinking about it.

Yes, you know, we give them l little things are year long. But most of them are still very young and the whole Christmas and presents is important to them.
Onna just turned 8 a couple o f week s ago….and I didn’t get her anything for her birthday. They didn’t have a birthday party for her either. If they have a party I bring a gift.
We saw them yesterday and she very indelicately asked if I got her a present! I said No, I didn’t . Then I asked if money would work and she said yes. I found 2 dollars in my billfold and a whole bunch of change, probably from the last time I went to the laundry mat. Altogther the loot come to $7.00. She was thrilled. But has nothing to keep it all in.
I just added this to my Christmas list.

We can put pretty much whatever we want on the grave. other than glass, from November to
March as they don’t mow the lawns in the wintertime.
