When I gain a few pounds, I try to take them off right away so my weight doesn’t explode. Along with that, everything in moderation.
;The word ” d-i-e-t” makes me hungry so I’ve removed it from my vocabulary!!! Now, I cut back on the amount I’m eating, switch up on the foods that I’m eating. I DON’T automatically discount any new diet fad but try to find a way to incorporate it into my lifestyle with a few modifications that work for me. I’ve lost 20 pounds doing this & I’ve NOT had to give up my guilty pleasures. NO, I didn’t lose it overnight, but I DID lose it!!! :}
My body does not process carbohydrates well, best for me to avoid them as much as possible.
A bit over 2 years ago, I switched to a mostly vegetarian diet for spiritual reasons. Meditation is an important part of my life, and this diet helps me stay “clean.” I don’t know another way to describe it. I occasionally eat fish. On Thanksgiving I ate a piece of turkey, and I slept horribly that night. Of course, I don’t know if it was because of eating meat, but I don’t know that it wasn’t.
I attempt to eat a balanced diet of meats and veggies. I try to not go overboard on any of the food groups. When I notice a reaction to anything I’ve eaten, I pay close attention to how my body reacts the next time I eat it. If I notice a certain pattern, I phase that particular food out of my diet.
Lay off the fatty “rich” foods and sugary treats (especially ice cream).
Eat whole grains and fruits and vegetables in their original state (not over processed).
Eat small amounts of meats and cook them well done (to kill parasites and bacteria).
Forget about diets. Especially crazy high protein high fat low carbohydrate fad diets.
Don’t eat like a pig.
FYI: I’m a very active 68 years old man, 5’11”, 143 pounds, 8% body fat.
@gondwanalon -I don’t need to gain or lose weight and do exercise daily.
I do follow an anti inflammatory diet geared towards MS.No sugar,no gluten,no dairy-(especially dairy)
My husband has noticed significant reduction in the pain in his shoulders since eating this way.As for me, I feel alright but am always looking to improve things.
That diets are stupid.
Eat real food and exercise. That’s it. It’s no big secret. No one wants to do those 2 things I’ve witnessed.
Eat pure healthy foods. Spend your grocery shopping time and dollars in the produce, meat, and dairy sections. Buy flour and corn meal for breads. Leave the rest alone for the most part.
I am very aware of how much fat and sugar I could be ingesting of a particular food, and make a rational decision whether to proceed or walk away. 85%.of the time I walk away.
Eating healthy is habit forming. I try to avoid foods that are high in sugar. I now find it hard to eat such foods, and have come to a greater appreciation of fresh fruit as a sugar source.
GA @LostInParadise. In my mind “Going on a diet”=changing eating habits forever.
Diet should comprise of all nutrients essential for a normal functioning of the body. Dieting does not mean not eating food. You need to have a well-balanced diet.
