When shopping online has this ever happened to you and how did you resolve it?

Asked by Inspired_2write (14486points) December 4th, 2019

In November 2019 I ordered a gift to be shipped to my longtime friend in France and all worked out well, or so I thought it did?
After receiving a confirmation of payment,a delivery date and a notice that it was shipped , I sent an email to the friend that a gift was being delivered December 4 2019.
After payment went through,I received a note from the seller that the product was out of stock and that in about ten days I will be refunded?
I notified the website which was Amazon.fr of not only the disappointment but the unfairness of having to wait and tie up my money while they slowly correct it,plus get the interest on my money as it sat in the sellers account!
Nevertheless only after I sent a comment online about the unfair practice of the late refund did I finally get my refund on my credit card Very quickly!
This seller is on many websites offering the same product knowing full well that it is out of stock! I noted that and left a comment about scams. Wow one really has to be vigilant when online shopping, one never knows whom to trust.

No that’s never happened to me, but it sounds like you handled it well.

Not that it’ll give you a hundred percent security, but I (would) always check the seller’s reputation.
On Amazon you can see how many stars (reviews) they have.
So far I’ve been wronged once (difficult to work out if it was intentional, but I wasn’t pleased.

Did you know that after two years all comments are erased.
I did not see anything to signify untrustworthy.
But viewing the product on Etsy it was displayed as available in stock of which it was not?
I wonder how many others ordered and had received same treatment…
.holding back one’s money ( interest) while disrupting my accounts?

Thanks.
I now am proactive in getting justice especially concerning money.
This seller is on many websites that sell her product ( Cross Stitch kits).
Can one imagine the enormous amount of people that she is scamming by holding up the refund?
Now imagine the interest that company receives and never sells a thing?
And that is what galls me.

Classic scam. Who did you order from?

@Sagacious
A company situated in the UK but sells on amazon and Etsy plus other sites

If I find something I like I immediately head over to Amazon to see if they carry it. Most times they do. Ordering from Amazon is a much safer bet than ordering from some random company overseas.
I placed my orders on Monday, and they started flowing in on Tuesday. Got the last of it on Wednesday. Unbelievably fast.

The glaring problem was that the seller posted it as “in Stock” in error..sevral times on several sites.

But it was from some random company overseas, right? That’s always risky.

I try NOT to order from China or Asian or India sources for that reason but thought that a UK company in London would be trusted? I guess not?
Amazon.fr has noted the sellers lax practices and will watch them for two years now..they are on notice.
I have always ordered from amazon.fr simply because its in France and NO delivery fee, because its in there country of origin. I should had ordered from Amazon.UK maybe, but its only that company that made a serious error.
I have yearly ordered from amazon.fr with no problem until recently.

No company anywhere can really be trusted. Not even if they’re in the US. If they have the same product on Amazon, order it through Amazon instead of directly from the company.
