What are these two holes in these shoes for?

They’re to frighten off wasps!
On being pestered by the little shits, one takes off the shoe & wafts it in their general direction.
The sudden rush of air filters through the side holes causing them to whistle, this disturbs the wasp greatly.
You may say “shoo” to accompany the whistle if you wish.

I think it’s for ventilation. It is assumed that people who wear Converse are athletically active and have sweaty feets.

For air circulation to help keep your feet from sweating and eventually stinking. Also helps in slowing athletes foot

Ventilation. Converse thought it would give creative people a change to invent new ways of lacing their shoes. Lame but true.
