Some patients don’t require physical strength and the people who want to hire a nurses’ aide don’t care if it’s male or female, so what word should they use whether to filll out a form that doesn’t have enough box/space for “nurses’ aide/ orderly”? If a person uses the term nurses’ aide a lot of people assume you want female nurses’ aide.

We call them Care aids up here, Mr Squeeky is a licensed care aid.
@SQUEEKY2 ok, what about in areas where the term orderly and nurses’s aide are the terms used? I mean it would be nice if “care aide (F)” or care aide (M)” was the only term everywhere, but in the meantime.
The terms Patient Care Technician (PCT) and/or Unlicensed Assistive Personnel (UAP) are commonly used now.

In California at my rehab place, they were all called CNAs – Certified Nursing Assistants.

…Ignore that last post. I don’t know the site. I just expected the basic info to be there. But no. CNAs do all the things that nurses’s aides don’t/aren’t trained to do. Nurses’ aides don’t take (not trained to take give meds vital signs, do everything to do with the catheters, change bandages, (weighing them, (Edited to add I’m not sure if that’ the nurse or nursing assistant’s job) ...) They wash etc, feed, basic notice and report things out of the ordinary ..
By the way some patients/clients specify same gender as them, they refuse to be bathed etc, by the opposite gender. So it’s important that the form says (F) or (M) in addition to the term.
@flo
A CNA is a nurse’s aid. That’s literally what it stands for – Certified Nurse’s Assistant/Aid.
Which reminds me of staying with “the end of the decade is 2020”, even after reading the explanation “they started counting from 1 not from 0, so the end of the decade is 2021.”
