Can you advise me, regarding the maintenance of my water cooler?
I have a Hinckley & Schmitt Inc. water cooler, the kind where you place an inverted 5-gallon bottle on top, and you have two dispensing spigots for hot or cold water, and the thing works perfectly.
But, when I purchased it from my friend, it had no owner’s manual, so I don’t know how to clean the thing, how often it should be cleaned, nor what substances to use, when cleaning it.
If anyone can advise me about such things, I’d be grateful.
I don’t know if the company exists anymore; it’s my understanding that they were absorbed by some Japanese conglomerate.

you should be able to treat it just like a coffee maker, in that you could run vinegar thru it periodically.
How much vinegar, and what kind of vinegar? The white one? How often should I do that?

won’t that be a nice surprise when you go to drink a refreshing glass of cold water someday? BLECH.
yeah, the white one. Every six months oughta do it.
@poofandmook: I’/ve done that procedure with my coffeemaker, as the owner’s manual instructs, and if the coffee maker is flushed out with a couple of fillings of water, there is no foul aftertaste from the white vinegar.

I know that it’s a widely used remedy, but you don’t know me very well, or you would know that I could flush it out 20394203982934 times and I would still miss vinegar, and it would of course wash into only my glass… and of course that would be at 3:30 in the morning in a haze of sleep.
Let me guess: You are that same person who walks into the bathroom AFTER the person before you has used up the last of the toilet paper, right?
I thought I was the only one who had that franchise.

Nope that’s me, all the way.
We’re in the same club… [heavy sigh]
