That doesn’t describe me. I turned it off for two years as I was sick of it.
I have since changed my ways and will watch re-runs of The Office.

Yes, there are television critics.

Linda Holmes is probably the closest to professional TV expert watcher around; she reports on Pop Culture on NPR, and has written on TV and TV shows for years.

One cannot be an expert unless one can demonstrate one’s expertise. That means being able to write about it, or speak on the subject as a resource.

Ever since No Child Left Behind was enacted, a lot of children and teenagers who used to be in Special Education / Resource attend schools where they watch television, movies, or play video games all day. There used to be an educational criteria introduced in 1975 that no child was uneducable, and even a Special Education certificate meant something.

A guidance counselor at a Special Education school I once knew eventually retired and found other work over this. She had helped hundreds of students meet educational goals and vocational goals although they could not meet the standards of a diploma.

If you were to visit the school today (Sheffield, in Memphis) you’d see students just sitting around watching t.v., playing wrestling on mats, playing video games, and going on entertainment field trips.

I guess you can say their educational experience is becoming an expert in watching t,v,

Movie critic, screen writers watch and learn techniques from viewing many types of movies to integrate into their movie.
