What is the saddest thing you've seen recently?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) January 12th, 2020

This was the saddest thing I have seen in a long time. That mother violently dragging her poor son away, with a belt in her hand was just horrifying.

It was posted by the wife of one of my former students. She went on a rant about people are either male or female and certain roles come with that. She’s not old, either. Her kids are between 3 and 15.

She is in an interracial marriage. The irony of that in contrast to that meme is apparently lost on her. There was a time when her marriage would have been profoundly condemned. “You don’t mix the races! It’s unnatural!”

It would have to be these little guys getting caught up in Australia’s brush fires…

The children in cages at the border separated from their parents.

It would certainly be sad if it were real! As it is, your student is going to discover eventually (soon) that you can’t beat the gay out of a kid.

It was his wife who posted it. I don’t know if they are dealing with gay kids. Their kids are pretty young.
I don’t think a small child has to be gay to be attracted to the glitter of being a princess.

I see and hear sad stories daily. They are real, not sad stories fabricated by media. There really are a lot of people with sad circumstances who need help. People who have never had help and worked hard their whole lives. We each do what we can to help them back to a familiar place of self sufficiency. When that happens I can say it was a good day.

A homeless woman sitting outside my workplace in the bitter cold surrounded by police telling her she could find a bench to sleep on.

@Jonsblond We have a homeless woman that stays in a nearby park sometimes. We saw her the other day. The first time in the winter. She had all of her stuff in bags all over the picnic tables. It is so devastating.

I tried to help her any way I could. But there are just no easy answers. Thankfully I have never seen anyone bothering her. Why did the police not try to help her find a place? A shelter? Anything? That is awful.

I offered to take the woman near us to the shelter but she said they wouldn’t let her stay there. No idea what is up with that. But she seems to be able to stay in the park without any hassle. She has blankets and coats etc, but it’s just horrible.

For me, it’s also Australia right now. The poor people and animals.

@anniereborn Many shelters are sober shelters and if you either don’t comply with rules, or show up with alcohol on you, or have broken rules in the past, they will not let you in. Sad though.

The dispute between Harry ans Meghan and the Royal Family. Whatever the issues.

@Brian1946, oh dear! On the sticom “Cheers,” there was a producer named Mary Fukuto.

Oh, I don’t think it’s a dispute. Harry and Meghan just don’t want the lime light on them, and especially not on their children any more. But I haven’t looked into it very deeply.

Good news for Australia. It’s supposed to down pour for 5 days they said.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

That would be wonderful.
Let’s hope it happens.
