My mother once missed a couple of Christmas cards from friends she had known for years. Finally, in the summer, the cards arrived somewhat damaged by water. It turns out the mail had been on a small mail carrying plane that had crashed in the mountains and not found until the snow had melted.

Grandaddy sent a note locating a snipers nest during ze vor…buggers shot the pigeon!
Really interesting story @kritiper!
When my dad died his wife started sending mementos to every one. For example, I got all of his hats. She sent a ship in a bottle that Dad had made, to my daughter. My daughter lived in an apartment complex. The mail man put the package in the wrong box. I wrote an op ed, pleading for whoever had it to please return it to us. We never saw it again.
I think a family member got in a little trouble (I think just a fine) because they never got a letter with the court date. Don’t remember what the thing was about but it must’ve been minor
Shoot. That’s a joke. The father of my daughter’s son sent notice of a child support hearing…to a non-existent address. She never got the notice. But the fact that it was sent to a complete and total wrong address didn’t make a single bit of difference.
But when she was ordered to pay child support because, at the same time, he was granted 51% custody, she sure got THAT piece of mail.
It was a viscous move on his part.
I once received a package of cookies from Amzaon that I did not order. I don’t know how this happened, since the package address was not nearby. I contacted Amazon, and they said I could keep the cookies, because they do not redeliver food.
No big story behind it. But I have mailed a few letters that never got delivered to the recipient, and a birthday card which never got to me, but was mailed. It’s just we are only human with the mail system and things can happen.
