Why is Trump deregulating pollution regulations lately?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23474points) January 27th, 2020

A short time a go deregulated emission standards on new vehicles, now just deregulated what industry can dump into streams and rivers.
These regulations were in place already to keep industry from polluting to their hears content now I guess it’s full steam ahead.
I guess the dollar really is god and who needs clean air and water?

I think you answered your question very well.

Just wish they wouldn’t claim they are concerned about the environment and then do this bullshit.

Yeah, Trump has been on an environmental protection obliteration rampage ever since he took office. He’s probably stepping it up (not that it ever slowed down) to get as much corrupt brownie points as possible before he (hopefully) loses the next election or (hopefully) gets fully exposed and/or expelled.

The reason, of course, it that he’s a corrupt corporate pawn, who has been appointing lobbyists to government departments that oversee corporate interests, and giving away as much as possible to oligarchs and mega-corporations.

Destroy National Parks. Frack everything. Drill everything. Pollute everything. Drill everything. Regulate nothing corporate. Maximize military spending. Maximize border wall expenses. Etc.

It is as though he has sworn a vow to travel the path of pointless malevolence. Why should the earth get a break?

I guess I’d have to see the specific regulations and what they were protecting us from before I could make an informed opinion on the matter. I do know that the previous administration put excessive regulations in place that bordered on governmental overreach in some cases. Getting rid of excess is not a bad thing always. But again, I’d need to see specifics before forming an opinion.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Rolling back ANY emission controls on vehicles is not a good thing same , as allowing dumping of any kind into streams and rivers.
YOU know that but still want to make us look like over reacting ill informed Lib/tards.
Getting rid of excess??Really
ANY INDUSTRIAL WASTE dumped into a stream or river is too much.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Excessive regulations??
Industry has proven it needs to be regulated because if not it runs full bore over people and the environment crushing all in it’s path for it’s quest of higher profits.

Isn’t he just running through a checklist of things Obama did? And then undoing them..

SQUEEKY2's avatar

That could be it^ I have heard his hate for Obama knows no bounds.

stanleybmanly's avatar

Great clip JP. I’m waiting for someone (anyone) to accuse Trump of being “too professorial”.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Yeah Trump loves mocking people relentlessly but can not take it in return has proven that a thousand times over.
But to deregulate pollution regulations,as a form of revenge can Trump be that fucking petty, let me think yup,and that will probably earn me my hate button for today.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

He makes money.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

From what the industry he deregulates?
BOY I WISH THAT COULD BE PROVEN.

stanleybmanly's avatar

You folks shouldn’t worry. As surely as there are fish in the ocean, the curtain is descending on the saga of Donald Trump. There is just entirely too much that must be hidden, covered up, lied about and painted over. It CANNOT be sustained.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Oh I hope you’re right….

stanleybmanly's avatar

I have never been more certain of anything in my life. But the thing about this fiasco that I find sobering is that this saga should not be viewed as some sort of triumph in the contest of Democrats vs. Republicans, though the elephant must perforce suffer annihilation. It is virtually a matter of luck that it was the GOP that found itself stuck with the defense of a turd. In the end, they never stood a chance.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Yup,them Rep/cons are all for the environment!

@Zaku Thank you. That’s a start. I haven’t fully read the list yet, nor dug in deep into each of the issues. But I am doing so. I see some common themes so far, though. A lot of what was changed by Trump was duplication of effort or excessive administration issues or, in one case, just plain illegal efforts by Obama. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some of the rules I feel needed to be in there. As I said, I haven’t been through the whole list. And many things on the list will require more investigation than what is provided with this list. Each item has a read more tab, but many of these just take you to another opinion article. That isn’t giving me the facts I am looking for. But thank you for giving a citation.
