Simple is best:
Ham and swiss on jewish rye bread, lettuce, mustard and mayo. (With chocolate milk and barbecue potato chips.)
Rosemary Ham
Mesquite Turkey Breast
Corando Roast Beef
Vermont Cheddar
Probably, my favorite is roast beef, however I mostly eat ham at home.
Roast beef on rye or white with lettuce and mustard.
When I’m at a Jewish style deli I often get corned beef, because good corned beef isn’t easy to get.
No ham. I don’t keep kosher, but I just don’t like ham.
At home:
rye bread, roast beef, mayo, slice of swiss cheese.
At a real deli:
Either
a (real) reuben sandwich – marbled rye and kraut
Or
Rumanian pastrami piled high, with brown mustard, on rye or pumpernickel.
I like meat ends. By itself.
Roast beef is one of my favourites.
Lebanon bologna with Swiss cheese and mayo (Hellman’s) on sliced Rye bread.
Corned beef as reubens are my favorite.
Turkey with Provolone (extra Provolone) on a basic French hogie bun, lettuce, tomato and mayo.
I have tried and liked the following items:
Turkey
Ham
Bacon
Hamburger
Chicken
Summer sausage
With the following choices of breads:
Toasted whole wheat ( 12 grain bread)
or Fresh baked Bread
Croissants
Biscuits
With Fillings choices one or more:
Tomato
Fried onions
Olives
Pickles
Green onions( sliced fine and with some green ends ( short)
Radish
Lettuce
Dijon mustard
Cheese ( different types)
I like to experiment when cooking with a variety of meats, etc
Well, if we’re talking Deli and bread options…
Out and about, I love Sam LeGrassa’s Deli in Boston. I get the Pastami on Brown Bread with Vermont Cheddar and a light schmear of honey mustard. Homemade pickle and steak fries to go with. I have not been there in a while. I’m due for a visit.
At home, I like oatmeal bread of fresh Scali bread.

I like Spamalot!
@ucme not don’t be spamtimonious about loving Spam
My go to is roast beef but I love pastrami, corned beef, salami and pepperoni.
All this talk of rye and swiss is making me hungry. My mom usually makes me reuben’s for my birthday but the weather intervened last week.
I prefer crab sandwiches to anything. But that isn’t really a deli meat.
I’ll go with turkey or salami.
DAMN YOU ALL!!!!!
Now I gotta go fix a sammich.
FINGER
Well, I didn’t have any ham slices thawed, so I went with potato soup.
When I have the ham, I will probably go with BBQ sauce, and mozzarella, colby, cheddar.
We have a fire roasted tomato turkey in the deli I work in that’s really good. I’d throw on some of the smoked Gouda we have and put it on sourdough.
Funny thing is when I started in the deli I thought it would be hard to not want to try everything we have. We have a very large selection. People are surprised when they see our deli. After being surrounded by all the food and having to slice all the meats and cheeses every day I’ve lost my appetite! I have no desire to eat any of it. I’ve actually lost weight since working there.
Hey what ever works good for you.
Subway used to have a seafood sub, mainly crab, that was to die for. They don’t offer that anymore. Except for tuna fish.
Pastrami or turkey. One of my favorite sandwich places makes a toasted sourdough pastrami sandwich with peperoncini, tomatoes, lettuce, and mustard. It’s simple but it’s excellent.
Turkey and bacon on a roll with lettuce and tomato.
Or good old ham and American yellow with lettuce and tomato, on a roll.
I’m with you @filmfan. I was distressed when Subway pulled their seafood option. They still have tuna fish, but that doesn’t count.
I’m surprised that a good old fashioned BL&T hasn’t been mentioned. There was a mom & pop deli I used to go to in Denver that did a great BLT.
Is a BLT a deli sandwich? It’s not deli meat. I don’t think of bacon that way.
I kinda agree with ya^^ a BLT is a super great sandwich but it’s not deli meat.
I think there is a bit of a disconnect between places that have access to an honest to goodness Deli (as in Jewish, Italian, Greek, etc. Delicatessen) like New York, Chicago, Boston, etc., and places that just have Subway.
There’s really no comparison.
@cookieman They are in the grocery stores here in the middle, the Deli dept.
Corned beef. Not much better than corned beef and swiss with some good deli mustard.
@KNOWITALL: A good deli manager at a grocery store can certainly offer up some good stuff (quality meats, fresh pickles, good olive selection) and partner with their bakery for fresh bread (if they bake in house).
That scenario is certainly a step up from Subway, but not quite a mom and pop Deli.
@cookieman Agreed. I’ve never been to a proper deli. Or had your fancy pizza. I’m so deprived. Ha!
@KNOWITALL: Oh I’m sure you’ve got some yummy regional specialties ‘round your parts.
@cokkieman I’ll trade you braised deer tenderloin with fresh picked morels, for a real deli reuben. Haha!
@KNOWITALL: Sounds like a plan. I’ve never had deer.
@cookieman Oh no, now I feel sorry for you. It’s on par with the best steak I’ve ever had, and I’m in cattle country.
No, I don’t like deer. I’ve had it. It’s too gamy for me.
