Like going to cities and avoiding rush hours or going to places without large crowds, such as small towns? Which do you mean?
Probably avoid Honolulu.

It isn’t that difficult. Go to Kauai, especially up by Hanalei,or down by Poipu. Go to Paia on Maui, and then out to Hana. Go north of Kapalua. Or go to Molokai. Just stay away from Honolulu or Kaanapali.

Check with your local BBB about your friendly neighborhood travel agent, and if they check out to your satisfaction, go see them.

I’ll third Kauai.
An inexpensive way to get a good sample of Hawaii i to take a cruise rather than island hop.

I just sent your question to @Hawaii_Jake, who might have some good suggestions.

It’s quite simple. Stay off Oahu. Kauai is gorgeous. There’s lots to do. Maui has amazing beaches. The Big Island has some great stuff including a volcano that is quiet now. You can fly direct to all the islands and completely skip Oahu.
