Were you to write your own autobiography, would you even remember enough to fill more than 5 pages?

Asked by ragingloli (52277points) February 4th, 2020

I know I could not. I have to strain to remember what I had for dinner yesterday.

Yes. I remember many details even from quite young years, and have done autobiography exercises before.

I could write >5 pages about when I was 3 to 4 years old.

We have staff for that!

Easily…if I double-space the lines and use an 18-point font. ;-)

Easy. Shoot, I could write 4–5 pages about each woman I have slept with…

I can remember plenty but not a book full that would interest anyone else.

I was at a memorial service last year when one speaker couldn’t make it. A former co-worker was recruited at the last minute. He gave a long talk filled with mundane work anecdotes like, “Back in 1972 we moved offices and Greg was in charge of picking new furniture. The sales reps gave him books of fabric samples. There were three shades of blue that everyone like, and blah, blah, blah, blah…” The poor guy. Everyone felt for him.

Thank goodness one of the dead man’s sons followed with a perfect tribute to his dad, with short stories about his impact at home, at work, and on the community with his volunteer work.”

I would. Mainly because I have just about every minute of it written down.

That is what a good thing is in living within a drama filled family…over the years when siblings would repeat over and over the injustices in the family..it stayed in my long term memory enough to write most of it down later in my daily journals.

Presently its my older brothers who are now divulging what happened when they were younger and what transpired before I was born( backstory)..very interesting which makes understanding our family dynamics much easier to see the effects of a trying time in a poor economy at that time.

I could fill five volumes.

Yes. If you’ve read any of my posts on Qs where somebody is asking about a remembrance, or an event, you know I can string a few paragraphs together.

If you look over my responses here, not even including my Jonesn4burgers responses you would see I could fill many pages. Damn. I could get at least a hundred just from my military service.

I just came across an essay that I wrote in 1986, about an adventure I had in Florida in the 60s, that I do not remember today.

In the 80s I enrolled in a mail order course on writing for children. I learned how to come up with ideas and how to put them down to make them interesting for kids. It’s every bit as challanging as writing for adults!
I found this in my box of pictures. Page 1, Page 2, Page 3

I put it in an envelope and I’m giving it to one of my granddauthers, Mini-me, as a story I wrote for her before her dad was born.
