Who has or had the greatest voice in rock n roll?
I personally like Paul Rodgers but listening to Slade, I’d have to say that singer has a screaming voice.

That’s so subjective.
Dylan before the accident
Lou Reed
Leonard Cohen
early SImon and Garfunkel (harmonies)
Sinatra
Roberta Flack
there are many who qualify
@elbanditoroso -I always like to hear opinions. Is Bob Dylan your favorite?
Man: Freddie Mercury
Woman: Annie Lennox/Alison Moyet
@ucme- AM had a hit in the 80’s. right? How’d it go?
Okay, I’m sorry that I have to end the debates here.
But there can be no more discussion after I’ve stated that indeed, that’s Elvis.
@ucme -Yep, that’s the one and “Only You”.
I was trying to think of a female vocalist.Maybe Ann Wilson but I like Amy Winehouse a lot. Pop? Rock? idk
@rebbel – I never got into Elvis much but I’ll take this version of one of his songs :)
Re Winter Kills-I remember hearing that one somewhere before :)
@ucme -I expected Erasure.
Were they in the same band together -the singer from Erasure & AM?
Kurt Kobain or Chris Cornell
The obvious answer is Biz Markie or Efrim Menuck.
@lucillelucillelucille No, but the keyboard player, Vince Clarke, was in both bands & Depeche Mode too for a brief spell…you see how much you learn here?
Freddie Mercury
Jon Bon Jovi
Janis Joplin
Male:Freddie Mercury
Runner Up: Roger Daley
Female: Annie Lennox
Runner Up: Tori Amos
I think Freddie Mercury had the best range. I always liked Rod Stewart as well. He had a bit of a raspy voice (the best description I can come up with), but he used it to good effect. For a woman, I’d have to go with Aretha Franklin. She always brought the feeling into it.
My personal favorite was Freddie Mercury.
I guess I vote Chris Cornell.
But. It’s a tough one.
There are a lot of great voices being mentioned here. It think that indicates how lucky we are, to have so much talent out there to choose from.
Freddie Mercury
Elvis sucksssss…
Daltry (of The Who), not Daley.
Darn spellcheck.
Meatloaf—when he could still sing.
That would be personal preference, but I guess you could measure it with album sales that might tell you.
@cookieman Might want to check that again, It’s Daltrey
Easy big boy, got to watch those stress levels!
^^ I think Lady Gaga is amazing her stage shows are a bit strange for my taste but she truly has a great voice.
Bon Jovi is great to not the best but really good.
I have to draw the line at Jon Bon Jovi with a piece of duct tape across his mouth.
That band is in my top five list of bands that enrage me. Lol
@chyna -My sister loves him. There has got to be a name for that voice affectation. It drives me nuts.;)
@Patty_Melt – I liked that one too as well as Amy Winehouse’s duet with him.
Choice bit. Two thumbs up.
You know, I didn’t see it on anybody’s list, but Bowie had a great voice.
As did/do Kate Bush & Adele
I meant to include him on my list. I got lost in YT.
You know, he never thought himself a good singer.
@seawulf575 Bowie was great but to a small group of individuals I think it’s just opinion, unless you go on album(CD) sales.
And are we going from solo artists or can we name bands as well?
@ucme I have and I am surprised. Her voice is distinctive.
I’d be runnin’ up that hill to escape it lol
