How does it feel for a dog to have ear mites?
Poor Cato has been shaking his head and digging at his ears….yelping. We picked up ear mite treatment and gave it to him. I looked up the ingredients. It’s s pesticide. He seemed to actually get worse for about 10 minutes.
Were dying mites running around frantically, screaming as they die, like fleas do after a flea bath? I threw a ball several times to distract him. He seems to be resting more comfortably now, but still shaking his head occasionally.
How long will it take to kill them ALL? How many treatments?
Any other suggestions are welcome.

Just guessing, I would think it would feel like Fire Ants crawling around in your ear!!!
My vet suggested that I put a heavy dose of Mineral Oil in my dog’s ear. IF you use enough, the mites will suffocate & the oil will sooth the inside of the ear.
My vet told me the same. So I’ll keep using that too, along with the insecticides.
The insecticides could be leeching into Cato’s brain. I think I’d try the Mineral Oil next few times to see IF I got a different reaction. It’s not an immediate cure thing, but I think Cato will thank you!!!
It can be really terrible. If left unchecked, it can cause deafness. I have used this product, and it works like a charm, and cleans the ears well. It’s also painless, which cannot be said for the pesticide the vet gave you. If the animal hasn’t had mites too long, there might not be any infection. Otherwise you might end up with another vet visit to take care of that.

I am sure the insecticides have been scientifically developed not to “leak into the dog’s brain,” @LadyMarissa.
I’ve been using mineral oil since it started. It doesn’t seem to be helping so we turned to the formulated insecticides.
Also, the only way it could “leak into his brain” is through the spinal column. I think that’s the only opening to the brain. It can’t leak through bone.
