Why did they change men's basketball uniforms from short to long shorts?
I believe they started wearing longer shorts in the 1980’s.
It seems that they would be more restrictive, even with some stretch in the fabric.
Why did they change the uniforms?

I’ve often wondered that. I like the shorter shorts better. :-)
@chyna – I saw photos of my husband in those.
That will be my next Christmas card. LOL!
I think they’d be less restrictive. I wish they’d let the women wear loose, long shorts.
The longer shorts are much more comfortable.
Those short shorts on men were a 70s fad. I didn’t care for them.
The change happened sometime during the late-1980s and early-1990s.
I miss those tight, short-shorts…a little something for the ladies! Male athletes have nice legs and glutes.
Michael Jordan liked them. He liked to wear his college shorts under them so he needed something baggy.
Then the 1991 University of Michigan basketball class wanted to copy him. And that’s when it took off.
The above is true.
I played volleyball on a first date with a guy once. (He was a horrible player and ball hog.) We went back to his place to clean up. He changed clothes…and came out in a pair of those short shorts and no underwear. It was SO gross. I got the hell out of there.
Ok I just looked it up and found out that what I have believed for years is just legend.
Jordan didn’t really wear his UNC shorts under his baggy shorts.
He just thought they were more comfortable.
Kind of disappointing
Because the only ball you wanna see bouncing is the big orange one!
@ucme- I have since been told they used to wear jock straps.
I was then reminded of an episode of The Goldbergs where Barry puts a “Joxygen Mask” on his brother. Lol
@ucme Was he over 2 feet tall?
@ucme -Well then. that blows my next question.XD
