I would have to say the piano.
I agree with the voice.
But in another sense, the computer.
Likewise electric organ. But any organ is very versatile.
Piano, but it can’t do everything.
There’s a lot to be said for a well-played cello.
A piano, or any other instrument for that matter, does not have those little knobs that are pulled out to change the sound, like an organ.
The drum is the most versatile. underlying all music is the beat.
At least on of my organs has a nob, and my sounds change when someone turns it. That makes me pretty versatile, too.
@briankbriggs -I cannot remember the name of the Terry Bozzio solo I wanted to post :(
@ucme-I do!
My husband won’t tell me where he hid mine.I don’t know why…
@ucme -That is truly a beautiful version!
It makes my heart sing! Like this!
If you are talking non-electronic, I would say a theater organ. In addition to the variety of pipe stops (e.g., brass, woodwind, string) there is a wide variety of special effects, such as actual drums, bells, train whistles, etc.
@Strauss -I heard one last summer at a museum. It was loud as hell but interesting just the same XD
As a guitar player, I am probably biased in saying “The Electric Triangle”...
Just joking. In my opinion, it would be the electric guitar. The guitar is an exceptionally versatile instrument, and unlike the piano, has a ton of crazy technique which can be used for better play-ability like sweep picking, or fret tapping for example. Plus, in the genres of rock and metal, the guitar is pushed to it’s limits and it’s mindboggling what masters like Vai, Malmsteen, and others are capable of. For example:
