Can you help make a list of things to do when you're quarantined?

Asked by filmfann (52487points) March 5th, 2020

I am currently quarantined to my room on the Grand Princess. I have limited internet, no local television, and no ability to get anything.

You can play word games. I found this link with suggestions: http://ask.metafilter.com/241287/Simple-word-games-no-accessories-required

Sorry you are isolated. I don’t envy you.

I saw a ship called the Grand Princess in PBS News earlier! No chance of getting some substantial reading material like books?

Inspired_2write's avatar

Read and write a daily journal of your experience.
Write your life story or make a story.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Ships offer movies you can watch from your cabin TV.
Read if you have any reading material.
Sleep as much as you can nobody’s going to give you shit for napping.
Man I don’t envy you .
Are they giving you a complete refund for the cruise?

Try drawing and by the time one is out your could be on your way to becoming an artist.
I was off work for almost 15 months and lost the use of my hands so I read a lot and got fast at reading ,plus I tried reading different genres and discovered a whole new way of creating stories.
I watched different shows since I had the excess time to do so…painting shows, archaeology, crafts, movies in different languages that were subtitled, glass blowing
,documentaries on several topics etc things that otherwise I most likely would not had taken an interest in…take advantage of this time to expand your mind and delve into a vast amount of topics, interests etc
You would be astounded of how informative you will become on a vast number of subjects.
Your can learn online languages, art, anything, just check that out and it will not feel like you are in a prison but instead its a valuable time to take in whatever your mind will soak up.

Gosh, do you have a balcony room?

Why limited internet? You would think they would be letting everyone use the internet for free. Can’t they go close to shore so 3g will work?

How long will they hold you there?

I guess fluther and crackbook when you can get online. Also, download a book of two when you have internet access. Catch up on sleep, be sure to get some exercise. Walk around the room, dance, yoga, whatever exercise you like.

Write the book you always thought about.

Jons_Blond's avatar

^Downloading when you have internet access is a good idea. I’d download a game that doesn’t require you to play online.

Read War and Peace.

Do handstands & make like you’re on the Poseidon.
Reckon Ernie Borgnine suits you fine…may not end well though.

Make lists of the movies you’ve seen in categories.

Write letters to your grandchildren for them to open when they’re older.

Create designs for quilts with your wife.

And…..do fun things with your wife? )Nudge, Nudge, wink, wink)

Play cards, board games or make up games.

Chinese checkers.

Agree with @Jonsblond. Also there are many books you can download to your phone as well for offline reading. Also meditate, nap, reevaluate your life.

Yoga and meditation.

Man, too close to home. Sorry you are going through this. If you have a kindle then there is a massive library of free books to read. I often regret not having enough time to read some of the classics on my reading bucket list.

KNOWITALL's avatar

My friend recommended you do like the Japanese Princess line, apparently a couple got the Amazon drone to drop a really nice wine and things off…hahaha!

I just saw on the news where 21 people have tested positive on your cruise. Hang in there and keep us posted.

Hawaii_Jake's avatar

19 of those testing positive for the virus are crew members.

mazingerz88's avatar

This was the headline in the Washington Post today. Hang in there @filmfann. You’re in our thoughts.

I have been staying at home for more than a month. I haven’t gone outside for quite a while unless I need to go out to buy something for my parents. My parents don’t approve of anything I do outside the house, so most of my contact with my friends are reduced to FB messaging. I haven’t seen my coworkers’ and boss’s faces for quite a while, to the point that I’m not sure could recognize them anymore ~

And I still haven’t lost my mind yet. I have a thesis to work on. And I also draw on my phone and envision my next story for a new project. I also have a bunch of games in my phone and computer to play on. These days I think I have improved my drawing skills and my gaming hands. A lot of people are sad because they can’t go out anymore, but I think I’m doing great generally.

So yeah, a lot of good suggestions for you up there. I’m just here to tell you that you are not the only one being quarantined. What matters is how you view your situation :)

mazingerz88's avatar

^^Drawing comic books during quarantine. Doesn’t sound so bad. :)

canidmajor's avatar

How are you holding up, @filmfann?

filmfann's avatar

Trying to figure out how prisoners make toilet wine.

janbb's avatar

Any idea how long you’ll be in?

I read that 21 had tested posted; mainly crew members.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Oh that sounds shitty, better just order a bottle.

Brian1946's avatar

Apparently the CDC recommends a 14-day quarantine, but I don’t know if that necessarily applies to cruise ships.

mazingerz88's avatar

@filmfann Please make sure you don’t heed the call of those pesky yet alluring sirens yonder at sea!

Mimishu1995's avatar

@mazingerz88 You can’t imagine how productive I have been during the two months I’m at home :D I’m working on another project since the last comic is now at the editing stage. It has been a wild ride since this project is much more complex than the last comic.

Oh, and @filmfann, you could write a report of what happens during the quarantine and show us when you finally get out. I’m sure a lot of us are curious of how people cope on a cruise ship, given that there was another cruise ship being quarantined before this.

And if I’m not mistaken, your name suggests that you like films right? How about a review of a film you love or hate?

filmfann's avatar

My wife appeared in a CNN report, and on local news. She was highlighted for bringing a sewing machine, and busy quilting.

Jons_Blond's avatar

Who brings a sewing machine on a cruise? Your wife wins. :)

filmfann's avatar

Today I had a filmed interview with CNN.
Later, some nice people from HHS in their PPE came to my door, and asked about my health. Tomorrow we are moved to Travis AFB for a 14 day quarantine.
Who says life isn’t exciting?

Caravanfan's avatar

@filmfann Can you link to the interview if you’re comfortable with that? (It would involve sharing your real name, obviously)

Jons_Blond's avatar

CNN just aired the interview at 1:10 pm CST. I just watched it.

@Caravanfan They didn’t mention his name. They just showed two short clips of passenger interviews, one being @filmfann.
