Are the members of a fluther descendants of the first animate organisms?

Asked by Brian1946 (32637points) March 10th, 2020

Sometime in the 90’s I heard on TV, that the first organisms able to move solely by their own efforts, were jellyfish.

But weren’t there some animate single-celled lifeforms, then or before?

And you’ve waited until now to question that?
There were many organisms living before jellies capable of independent mobility. I have two thoughts in mind which may have caused some confusion.
Perhaps there was a single celled organism with direct evolutionary ties to jellies. Or, perhaps they meant movement specifically associated with the capture of food. In that regard, I’m not sure whether either is capable, or perhaps both are.
Damn. You know I now have to go research that.
