Do people realize how irresponsible they're being by passing "facts" about the virus around, as though they really ARE facts....when they arent?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) March 13th, 2020

I’ve tried to say very little about the virus. I feel like every time someone mentions it, it fans the flames of panic unnecessarily.
However, I’m reading stuff that comes across my feed.

A former high school class mate said, “I read where the CDC says sunlight kills the virus.” Not only is that stupid on so many levels, it’s not true. But they say it with authority and cite the highest authority, the CDC, as “proof.” The virus is doing its damage in the body where the sun don’t shine!

Also, “Heat kills the virus.” Well, no shit. High enough temps will kill anything. I wouldn’t be surprised if hospitals don’t start seeing patients who tried to wash their hands in boiling water, it’s gotten so stupid.

They are being so irresponsible and stupid. It’s dangerous and it’s driving me a little mad.

I don’t pay a lot of attention to that kind of “authority”.
I am not one to panic anyway.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Me either. But I’m not thinking of myself. I’m thinking of all of those gullible people out there. Gullible parents of helpless children, especially.

@Dutchess_III – The same people who provide their children with a shit diet of processed garbage, blow smoke in their faces because they can’t quit, drive like a complete idiot with their kids in the car, go to the doc for antibiotics to “cure” a viral infection, etc.
There’s gullible. There’s lazy. There’s idiocy, among other things.
I’m not here to police them.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Not saying anyone should police them, but we should at least not contribute. That’s being as irresponsible as they are.

@Dutchess_III -People do that with everything even down to the most minuscule things.
For instance, when I quit Fluther, someone spread BS as to my reasons…

I never noticed you quitting fluther.

What’s a fact? This administration has lied about everything since inauguration day. And before.

They have devalued truth so they could get away with the chicanery and lying we see today.

There is only spin and falsehood, no such thing as truth or facts. Not in 2020.

@lucillelucillelucille :: Do you care that bad advice is costing you money? If your employer pays for your health insurance that is like Socialism on steroids. Accept you are getting your dope through a bunch of middleman. Each one of them adds “cut” and jacks up the price.

And every cent your boss pays for your insurance is money they could have just given to you for your big brain to make your own decisions with.

I’m not talking about the idiotic president. I’m talking about every day people who pass bullshit around on social media like they know what they’re talking about…and they don’t!

@johnpowell- There’s no need to get b!tchy.
I handle my medical needs and health very well. Have for years.
When I do go to the doc for tests, they come out well.Every time.
It is a direct cause of my efforts.
If I should get another condition, if I can handle it without a doctor’s help I will do that in a heartbeat.
As for insurance, I work for myself. Have for years.
When I got married, I went on hub’s.
That being said, I am not one to go to the doctor for every thing that comes down the pike.If I can handle it without a doc, I will.
I really don’t know what to say to you.

I’ve heard that if you wrap your body like a mummy with toilet paper, you cannot get the coronavirus,

@johnpowell
What are you talking about?
What’s troubling you?

I just saw someone who claimed gargling with vinegar and warm water will “eliminate” the virus. I can’t say anything though. It’s an elderly relative on Rick’s side of the family.

Another person causally claimed the virus is “airborne.” It’s not. If it was, “social distancing” would be worthless. It’s spread when the virus is ejected when someone coughs or sneezes. If it doesn’t land on a host, it falls to the floor or lands on something. This happens in less than 6 feet, which is where this social distancing thing is coming from.

People just say this shit, and don’t think twice.
