Just wondering how did the T.P scare start?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23474points) March 14th, 2020

This illness isn’t going to affect people that way, so why the mass buying panic on toilet paper?

Because we have to self quarantine in our homes. Tp, food, dog food, soaps are all we need to do that. For many of us anyway. My friend in st louis said her and another guy couldnt get insulin. That scared me for them.

Most people overestimate how full of shit they really are.

I think this is one of those viral things (no pun intended) – someone somewhere posted that they were running out of TP and all of a sudden the world went crazy.

I buy TP at Costco – 48-pack – so no problem for me. I have 44 left. But if you live in a small house or apartment, you may not have the space for storage.

I think that people assumed that the virus had the effect of diarrhea, of which it doesn’t have.

People went into earthquake, hurricane, tornado, blizzard….whatever kind of disaster they’ve experienced mode. This will last so long I pray that we can produce enough to sustain ourselves until it resolves itself. And that is what will happen. There will not be a vaccine so when enough people have had it and are, thus, immune to it, it will die. At that time hopefully travel bans will be enforced until the whole world can be declared clean. Imagine how long that might take. That’s a friggin’ lot of toilet paper.

According to both CDC and WHO, some may experience vomiting and diarrhea.

But the whole TP probably isn’t even about that. Most likely a reaction to hearing about possible quarantines where people are not allowed to leave their homes.

I’m going to blame a dipshit on Facebook or Twitter.

My sister was at Costco last weekend and they were out. And they guy said there were hour long lines in the morning.

The Safeway that is five minutes from the Costco has full shelves. And has always been full. I go there everyday and check. I was just there a hour ago and all is normal.

But my mom emailed earlier and said the Walmart by her house is out of TP and canned goods.

I have a feeling the madness in people hoping to resell on Amazon on eBay for a ridiculous mark-up. It has just spiraled into bullshit.

People are worried about being quarantined so they are overstocking. The overstocking is creating panic of having no access to toilet paper so people are reacting by buying their own supply.
