Everything on the paper goods aisle, such as toilet paper and paper towels, have been depleted for about two weeks. I’ve found a source of toilet paper at a local drugstore, but because of the small packages, small rolls and high prices at the drug store, I’ve already paid 4x as much as usl and the month is only halfway over.

Sagacious's avatar

@Yellowdog I bought some online last night at Officedepot.com. They may still have some. And, it’s being shipping to me. Don’t forget you can buy the commercial huge rolls that usually go into commercial dispensers. Good luck.

I normally shop at Costco, and I had been just before the panic buying started, so I was already well set up. I buy stuff in bulk anyway, and only go a few times a year, so my pantry always looks like I’m hoarding. Fresh produce may be an issue in a while, but I’ll just make do with the frozen and canned stuff I already had.

WE have always had about a months worth of TP long before this so called panic.
We have two large freezers Mrs Squeeky keeps well stocked when things go on sale.
A good size panty for dry and can goods.
and lots of toiletries.
We could easily stay inside for about 6 weeks as long as we keep power and water.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Good for at least a month here. My husband is planning an expanded garden, too.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

We are fine and have not bought anything in excess.

I have always maintained a well stocked pantry and could last three or four months never stepping foot in a store. As long as we have water, gas and electricity, we are set.

P. S. cloth napkins and cut up t-shirts make toilet paper unnecessary and are washable/reusable.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

We’re fine.

I have a huge supply of toilet paper, bought before the panic. I got two 30 packs at Costco (or maybe it’s more, I don’t know). I have a lot of hand soap, shampoo, cleansers.

Everyone, Costco.com has a lot of household goods and for most things on there, you don’t have to be a member to purchase (online). I promise. They had toilet paper as of yesterday. I didn’t need it but I was on the site looking for alcohol, and I regularly go on there looking for what’s on sale. Check it out.

Am fine. Have enough stuff so that if I need to stay in for two weeks, I’ll be fine. Bought a little extra of some things but certainly not panicked about supplies or food.

I don’t understand why people are buying water – never have, never will unless you live in Flint or suchlike.

Brian1946's avatar

@jca2

Thanks.

If I have to resort to online shopping, I totally prefer Costco to Amazopoly and Monozon. ;-)

We’re fine !

Bought a bunch of zinc. Already bought a bunch of hand sanitizer a month ago before the hysteria hit.

Bought some stuff, but not for our household. Bleach disinfectant spray, dropped off at two schools. Disposable gloves, saving for our local independent grocery store. Alcohol prep pads, offered to students in district who use AAC devices.

Not worried about water.

ucme's avatar

All good in the hood & would never think about bulk buying, that’s a selfish, moronic, entirely pointless act of wilful stupidity.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Due to my up/down health, I stay stocked so nothing runs out because I can’t leave the house. I’m in good shape except I was due to stock up on tp. I’m good for a couple of weeks.
Cleaning products are no problem.
I have at least 1500 movies on dvd. Some people think I’m nuts for having such a collection, but my everyday life I’m a shut in. Maybe this quarantine stuff will show people how hard it is never getting outside more than once or twice a month, for years.
Who I feel bad for is mail carriers. They are handling thousands of pieces every day.

johnpowell's avatar

You know how government agencies have a “use it or lose it” policy. Like if you have a leftover budget they just buy a billion staplers so they get the same funding next year. So do the people that send me feeding tube formula. I still use the feeding tube for about half my calories. But there is a problem if I request less than 2K calories a day. I have cases of formula. I can go months and not worry about food. And the good thing is when you only take in the formula you basically shit melted ice cream. A quick hop in the shower will work as well a TP.

But if everyone runs out of food the the people that keep the internet running will probably stop working. That is my fear. The horror.

seawulf575's avatar

Still have plenty of food and water, got enough toilet paper for the next couple months, got plenty of beans, bullets and band-aids….I’m good.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Think it’s actually going to come down to a need for bullets @seawulf575 ?

Dutchess_lll's avatar

As idiotic and reactive as some people are it’s a tailor made excuse to start.shooting.
Rick was at Walmart the other day. The guy behind him got pissed about how long the woman in front of Rick was taking to check out. Dude slammed his cart into the back of the belt machine a couple of times and started screaming.

I have a package of six super rolls of Angel Soft. A large bottle of antibacterial dish soap. A 30 pack of Hamms beer. Three bags of chips. Two packages of bagels. Bread and peanut butter. Yogurt and cereal. Ice cream. 2½ lbs. of chicken breasts and some macaroni and cheese.

Also a bag of cat food and a fresh litter box.

A bag of Chips Ahoy! that isn’t going to last long.

All for 4 people. This will last us several days.

seawulf575's avatar

@Dutchess_lll I’m waiting for the first fight or worse, killing, over the last roll of toilet paper.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

We buy staples in bulk every two months or so at Sam’s. We went on our last run about a week ago so we are fine.

We live in a cold climate with lots of snow so we’ve goten into the habit of replenshing well before we need it. We are always well stocked with everything, just in case.
We did not have to do any panic buying of toilet paper or tissues. We even gave some away. Probably have a 3 month supply.
Clean water is virtually bottomless from the the county water supply or our own well. We have infinite wood for heat and plenty of gasoline for the generators.
There are enough canned foods to last a long time. The freezer has lots of different items that can be added to the canned food to make more interesting meals.
This should be a good opportunity for folks to shop from their freezers and clean them out.

janbb's avatar

@LuckyGuy Agree. I have lots of food in the freezer that I will be cooking and using.

raum's avatar

You don’t need a gun.
Just stop shopping at Walmart.
Or at least until people calm down.

ANef_is_Enuf's avatar

Probably about a week’s worth of food, could stretch it 10 days I think. Good on TP. After 2 weeks things are going to get more complicated, because I’m going on week two without work. If things aren’t back to normal in 2 weeks I’m going to probably start to panic for real.

Tropical_Willie's avatar

Supplies are good – - – TP was stocked because the big box discount food store had coupons in January, February and March. Bought each month. We have dozens and dozen of soups and ramen also cases of veggies and beans. 10 pounds of rice other starches.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Tropical Rice is great, i got big bags of white and brown. Oats are good to store, too, plus tasty.

gwynnannette's avatar

So far so good.

I am fairly stocked on food, have enough food to last for a week or two, have 4 more rolls of toilet paper, which should last a while as well. And that’s pretty much it. I’m working from home, so don’t have much need to go out, and have fun video games to play, and Fluther to write on, since Quora banned me for “multiple accounts” even though I didn’t have multiples. And Quora was going great too :(

Anyways, back on track, so yeah, things are fine at this time.

seawulf575's avatar

I still have buckets of rice, sugar, and flour in long term storage, when all the fresh, frozen, canned, and dried food is gone. I can also pick the yard of dandelion leaves and roots, wild onions, clover flowers, leaves, and roots, and a few other odds and ends that most people over look.

LuckyGuy's avatar

We picked up 2½ more people :my son daughter in law and breast feeding 1 year old.

We are doing fine and can last a long time. I’ve noticed it is easy to practice social isolation when you normally socially isolate. :-)

Dutchess_lll's avatar

We pulled out our last roll of toilet paper…and there is none to be had anywhere in town…stupid ass wipes. >_<

Patty_Melt's avatar

I got ten rolls this week at Walgreens. If you know of one that usually does slow business, maybe there is still some.

jca2's avatar

@Dutchess_lll: Another idea is napkins or and if there are no napkins, go to a fast food place – t there are tons of napkins.

anniereborn's avatar

@Dutchess_lll I am right there behind you. Yeh we have napkins and paper towels. But I do not want to go that route and have shit rags in bags every time. (that part was for jca2)

anniereborn's avatar

@LuckyGuy Yes I have great worries about that happening. Honestly plumbers have told me before to flush nothing but toilet paper. Those “flushable” wipes are not. That shocked me at the time.

jca2's avatar

@LuckyGuy: I don’t use alternative wipes. If my daughter uses baby wipes she puts them in the garbage. I was suggesting napkins from the fast food as an option for @Dutchess_lll since she might get desperate. If I were @Dutchess_lll, I’d put the napkins in the garbage pail or wrap them up in a bag.

LuckyGuy's avatar

@jca2 Agreed. I just thought others should know about the plumbing/sewage issue that is happening right now. It’s another unintended consequence of this situation.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

We know not to flush wipes and paper towels down the toilet.
Well we ran out of TP at home. We checked at Wal-Mart yesterday. They were out. We popped back in today and LORD THEY HAD TP!! They aren’t even putting them on the shelves. They just parked a pallet full on the floor.
We bought 1 package. It was hard not to buy 2.

Yellowdog's avatar

Why not just use the shower curtain, and rinse it off when you shower?

Patty_Melt's avatar

Yikes! Lol

Brian1946's avatar

I was able to get a 6-pack of TP (I think that’s the per-customer limit) at Whole Paycheck. They’ve implemented some very effective hoarding-control measures there.

So far all stores that I’ve checked are still out of isopropyl alcohol. Walmart was out about 3 weeks ago, so I then bought a hefty supply of H2O2.

LuckyGuy's avatar

With the addition of 2 adults and an infant it looks like tissues will be our weak link.
We’re ok for food and water but tissues are running out. We’ll have to resort to using handkerchiefs – like cave men. :-)

raum's avatar

Good on toilet paper for now.
But bought some perineal bottles for backup.

janbb's avatar

@raum “backup” ha, ha!

LuckyGuy's avatar

I love my Toto Washlet, C200. If I installed a slot in the bathroom outside wall of the house and could have pizza delivered there, I’d never leave the room. :-)

Dutchess_lll's avatar

We’re fine. I totally have a craving for a bologna and cheese samwich!
