Are your support groups cancelled?

Asked by SergeantQueen (12992points) March 17th, 2020

I’m posting this for anybody here who needs it, or for anybody who may stumble across this while googling.
https://www.intherooms.com/home/
From the website itself
“In The Rooms is a free online recovery tool that offers 130 weekly online meetings for those recovering from addiction and related issues. We embrace multiple pathways to recovery, including all 12 Step, Non-12 Step, Wellness and Mental Health modalities.”
It’s free to sign up, and I believe they do things over Skype. But you don’t need to use the camera. It also has a COVID-19 support chat.

If anybody has other resources that would be helpful to those who need them, post here on this thread. Everything is closing and people are panicking, which can cause those who already have a mental illness/addiction to struggle worse.

Yes, this isn’t a full question but I feel it is an important resource to be aware of. Just because things are temporarily changing doesn’t mean everybody needs to put their lives on pause. Continue healing.

What support groups? I don’t hang out with people who do support groups.

Such as Alcoholics anonymous, Narcotics anonymous, and it seems like they have groups for people in recovery of eating disorders, sex addiction, other mental health issues, and even groups for people worried about COVID-19

I saw a notice up where I work that the AA meetings were canceled for now. I hope they can find another means to meet up. Skype or phone conferences.

My daughter runs a writing group that is now meeting with the help of Zoom, and another friend attends online (not sure of the platform) her AA meetings.

An art show has been rescheduled for May.That’s about it for things I’m involved in.

AA meetings have been cancelled in my area because of shelter in place orders. People are reaching out, and having meetings via Zoom.

The biggest concerns are that the person struggling to get sober will not be able to find a meeting or someone to talk to.

Yes, this allows people at any stage to find a meeting but obviously if they don’t have internet, this isn’t a perfect solution. I have been trying to research and see if their are alternatives for people in that position. This is sad. Lots of things are being fucked with because of this and people aren’t looking at the bigger picture nor taking it seriously
