Dislocating my knee and the aftermath was a 10.
My friends turning on me and me ruining my university was a 10 and I couldn’t cope.
Going blind and dizzy and having my knees buckle was a 10 from terror last week. Just trying to get a sip of water from the fridge.
Losing my grandpa was a 10/10.
Breaking three ribs and the time spent healing was a 10/10.
Being admitted to the hospital twice for constipation for a week of the time was 10/10. I ate the equivalent of raisin bran from one bowl of Total cereal.

I cut my finger with a hedge trimmer…right down from the tip…three times in the blink of an eye. After cussing soundly and throwing the hedge trimmer and taking my bleeding hand into the kitchen to wash it with cold water, I almost passed out. Yeah…a 10 for sure. On the side note, when they sewed it up, they gave me a nerve block and the pain went to 0. They could have been sewing up your finger for all I felt.

When I had MRSA in my spine. I couldn’t get out of bed and my brother tried to pick me up. Worse pain in my life.

Putting my mom in a home 1000 miles away. She thought she was going home. The look on her face when it hit that she was being locked up will haunt me forever. I have never hurt so bad for someone. That was a 12.

When I was having beebies. Those transition contractions! Jesus Christ!!! Kill me now!!!

A long time.
10/10 was probably my back at Disneyland. Couldn’t get out of bed.

I can never answer 10/10. Vaginal childbirth, I have never done that but am pretty sure that is the bar that needs to be passed to get a 10/10.

But I would put the getting the feeding tube put in a 8/10. That was by far the worst I have experienced. And I had a buzzer I could push and a nurse would come in and inject me with magical stuff that took about 30 seconds to kick in and made everything special. And then I would pass out for three hours and wake up in massive pain and press the buzzer again.

I fell off my bike once, or rather, I fell on it as the gear was lodged into my leg. That pain was bad enough that it made me cry at the age of 15, which by that age I had prided myself in barely crying at anything, let alone from physical pain. Also around that time I remember having an intestinal cramp so bad I could not stand and it was absolutely excruciating. It genuinely felt like there was a knife passing through my intestines. Both of those things happened within a few weeks of each other and they have not been superseded. (I also had a catheter put in once, but I was a young kid and I don’t remember the actual pain, only the fact of it being very painful).

I can’t think of analogous emotional pain. I’ve certainly experienced anguish and despair, but nothing that I can compare to the acuteness of that physical pain.

Pretty close to 10 right at the moment I tried to force myself to get up from the ground after my lower back had “gone out”. I thought I could make myself “power through it” – nope – floored immediately by irresistible pain.

Maybe a few other moments of injuring myself.

But they were all relatively short.

A number 10 pain level in my estimation would be so great that you would be rolling around on the ground screaming. I have never been there but came close once when I ripped 2 hamstring muscles off the bone. The pain was such that I passed out. Woke up dry-heaving.

About 2 weeks, after I had my ACL, PCL, and, MCL surgery.

I was being driven to a doctor’sappointment, and had my repaired leg up/straight on the dashboard. We hit a big bump, and my leg fell off the dashboard. It fell, and bent completely, for the first time post-op.

I consider myself to have a high pain threshold. In fact, when I tore all those ligaments, I was playing football. I injured myself, on the second play of the game. But… I got up, and finished the game.

But. When my repaired leg fell, I cried like a baby. 10/10. Definitely…

I once got very severe food poisoning.

It was a very sharp and heavy pain in my abdomen. Felt like someone was repeatedly driving a corkscrew blade into me and twisting it around. The pain was so excruciating it literally had me on the floor curled up in a ball. I could barely move. It was near unbearable.
