Do you own a 3D printer?

Asked by SEKA (7109points) March 27th, 2020

A Belgian 3D printing company has created a pattern for a basically hands free door opener. You just need to use your forearm with no need to touch with your hand. They are offering the pattern for free to anyone willing to print them out and pass them on to anyone who needs them. I have no need for a 3D printer so I don’t own one. If you own one, would you be willing to print and distribute to those who need it? It could possibly make you the hero of your office. The article didn’t give the link to the free pattern, so I looked for myself. Just in case you’re interested, this takes you to where you may download the info. Even after covid is gone, I think this would be a good idea for office doors. I have no affiliation with this company. I just found this on my hometown news website

It’s neat to see the people who see the pandemic as a reason to share. The open source community does that anyway, and some people are making an extra effort to help.

I see this as a very useful idea and the fact that they are willing to share it for free in place of selling it for $24,99 each impressed me. If I had the printer I’d be printing them by the dozens and giving one to everybody I know. Maybe the idea will give somebody else an even better idea and the goodwill will spread

I love this idea. I have never gotten into the 3D printing, but I would definitely share IF I had one!!!

A local group of 3D printers are prototyping face shields. I don’t have one myself. But lots of us have volunteered to assemble.

@raum I was reading about the other day & think that is a GREAT idea!!!

It seems easier to thoroughly disinfect. And you don’t have to worry about permeability of fabric.

Though wonder on how aerosols move in real world air flow.
