I once read a short story about a guy who was sentenced to a year of not knowing how to use technology after commiting a crime. People felt sorry for him, and he even had to have a small child withdraw money from an ATM for him. It took place in the future. Asimov, maybe?

I knew Isaac Asimov personally.
I’ll see if I can find the title of the story you mentioned, because I’d like to read it, myself.

I saw Asimov speak at the University of Bridgeport (CT) long ago. He impressed me very much; a group of Christian fanatics had planted themselves throughout the audience, and kept screaming questions about why Asimov had rejected Jesus (since he’d published annotations to the Bible and had therefore been exposed to Christ’s teachings). His response was so reasonable and sane – that religion was a matter of a personal emotional experience which he had not experienced – that it stuck in my mind ever since.
That didn’t appease the fanatics, of course, and they kept jumping up and screeching. The general audience got pretty pissed off, and eventually security came and escorted the protesters out of the auditorium.
Incidentally, his speech wasn’t particularly on the topic of religion.
I got the following e-mail response to an inquiry I sent to an associate of the late Dr. Asimov, and I can assure you that the information imparted to me in this message, is indeed wholly accurate:
The short story is titled “A Perfect Fit,” and appeared in his collection “The Wind of Change and Other Stories,” published by Doubleday in 1983.
I hope this is of help to you, and I plan on reading that story, myself.
Your friend,
Jack
