Do you have a trick for getting the last couple of squeezes out of a tube?

Asked by Jeruba (56034points) April 13th, 2020

Toothpaste, hand cream, ointment, whatever: I hate to toss it when I know there’s a portion or two left, but it’s pretty hard to get out. (In the old days, when toothpaste came in lead tubes, you could squeeze them right down to the last dab…but no, let’s not bring back the lead.)

Do you have a way of getting the most out of a nearly empty plastic tube?

Cut away the spout portion.

Roll the tube from the bottom, flattening as you go.
This pushes the last morsel of contents into the exit nozzle & leaves almost no waste.

Screaming obscenities just doesn’t work.
I try some of the above measures for better results.

Gotta fold in the part around the opening and sort of squeeze/press down toward the nozzle.

We cut the tub at an angle not far from the spout ,and get at it that way the angle helps putting it back together because there is usually 2 -3 applications left in the tube.

I put the tube on the floor and roll the heel of my foot over the tube. As I work the product toward the nozzle end I fold the tube over and clip it with a spring clip for documents. It works. .

I lay it flat on the vanity (or the sink or the countertop or other flat, hard surface) and I use my fingernail to push from the bottom to the top. Make sure to push on the side edges so that there’s absolutely no product hiding on the sides. When you get to the top, push the tube up into the spout, bending the spout if possible so you push up any product that’s hiding.

Cut it open.

Toothpaste tube gets flattened with the handle of the toothbrush, then folded across the width so the stuff does not flow back up, the folded part gets bent so that it does not unfold.

A bigger tube like BertsBees lotion… I stand that on the dispensing end and cut the tail section off at around two inches. The tail gets put back over the open end. I can get all the last bits out of the tail then work my way toward the dispensing end, when I can’t reach farther into the tube I cut another inch or two off it until I have scavenged every bit out of the tube.
