Start with, “I’m so bored I could die. I thought we could share some music videos until we are back to making music for real.”
Maybe send a favorite, and something totally absurd, and ask him which he likes best. That way he knows you expect to hear back from him.

You could always just say “What are you doing? or “How are you doing?” and you could add what you’re doing. ’‘How are you doing? I miss band” or “What are you doing? I’m waiting for my mom to cook dinner.”
