Is there any point to hanging around waiting for life to make sense?

Tell him to hang around and suffer like the rest of us, not take the cowards way out, I mean he still has years left to be exploited by the wealthy, over taxed by the Government, and be un appreciated by his employers.

I see zero benefit in talking adults out of suicide. I also see zero benefit in trying to make sense of “life” in general.

Should have said life is wonderful, full of surprises , too appreciate the little things like a great cup of coffee, or a beautiful sun rise, that type of thing?

Where is it promised that life is supposed to make sense?

The person is operating under a false premise.

Think of your family and how devastated they’d be. Life and fortune can change overnight.

No matter how bad things get, it can only get better. And who doesn’t want to see how the story of their life plays out naturally?

Ask him if he wants to repeat his life over again since that is what is in store for him..so states the Deli Lama. So he may well be better off to learn life lessons and get on with living and changing.

Make sense? No. It isn’t going to.

However, you can adopt some ideas that make sense to you—take your pick; there are plenty out there, from Absurdism to Zen—and use them as a lens for viewing life. Then it will seem to make some sense, and that’s just as good, if not better.

As for the guy with the gun to his head, I would say what I’ve said before to someone who I knew was having suicidal thoughts: “I care about you. If you’re determined to kill yourself, I can’t stop you. I hope you don’t. If you want help, it’s available.”

I would say not in the house it will make an awful mess.

@anniereborn When you’re down so low there is no place lower to go, you can only go up. How hard is that to understand?? If you can’t grasp that, then go ahead and pull the trigger…

@kritiper No, you could stay that low. Or you may go up a bit but it’s not enough. The majority of people do go back up. But to say “it can only get better” is a falsehood. And I’m not that low, so i have no need to pull a trigger.

Usually, when certain people bring up the subject of suicide, they are looking for help, someone or some point of view that might bring them a higher sense of being rather than being at the bottom with only thoughts of suicide. Someone who is serious about suicide, IMHO, doesn’t talk about it or leave notes or hints about where their heads are. They just do it.

I have heard that most suicides are committed within 10 minutes of the person deciding to do it. If I came upon some person who had the gun to his/her head, I’d ask them to wait at least 20 minutes so I could get a good distance away.
