If you believe in natural selection, would you take your child to the doctor if they had diabetes?

I keep reading comments that Coronavirus is natural selection. I agree it is nature’s way of natural selection but I don’t agree we should just throw our hands up in the air and not try to save as many people as possible by spreading the virus slowly so hospitals don’t get overwhelmed.
People are saying that the weak need to be weeded out of society. I wonder how many of those saying that would reject care for their loved ones or themselves should they get violently ill or have a long-lasting disease like asthma or diabetes?
So do you believe natural selection should play out?

Mostly, the comments I see about natural selection and COVID19 are regarding people doing stupid things like congregating together in large groups. Like the protestors, the ministers and church goers, people have parties, etc. In other words, As far as the physically weak being killed off, I haven’t seen comments about that as much.
I think natural selection is more applicable in the animal kingdom, and even for human beings hundreds of years ago, but now we have overcome much of what nature would cause to select out. We have weapons to overcome physical differences such as strength and stature. We can cure or maintain illnesses that happen.
I’m not really the right person to answer your question though.
@Dutchess_lll Are you answering the last question in the details or the main question? I think there’s some dissonance between the question was phrased and the details.
“If you believe in natural selection, would you take your child to the doctor if they had diabetes?”
Yes. As far as the old “weed out the weak” nonsense, that has nothing to do with natural selection. Natural selection is about survival of the fittest, not the strongest. The lion’s strength may allow it to overcome large prey, but the common domestic cat has proven far more the fitter by its ability to adapt and populate itself round most of the globe.
Humans, likewise, have come to dominate the planet because of our ability to adapt and to create solutions to overcome our physical weaknesses. Modern medicine is a part of that. If other animals could treat their injuries and diseases they would.
@janbb The first question, “If you believe in natural selection, would you take your child to the doctor if they had diabetes?”, is me wondering if they do believe in natural selection than does that mean they believe their love ones should be allowed to die? The second last question is looking for anyone who believes natural selection should play out, then what is their reason. I just pointed out my own views. Which is in line with @Darth_Algar. We are smarter and can outmaneuver natural selection, so why not use what we know.. Why let people die that don’t need to die. Actually heard someone on tv at one of those protest say that the weak need to die. It amazes me that most of those are probably right to lifers yet they are okay with people dying so long as they are weak because they can’t take being told they can’t go out for a while.
Good catch @JBB. I meant “Yes I would still.take my child to the doctor if they got sick with anything.” I would not ignore my child’s illness and just let nature takes its course.
I believe in gravity. That doesn’t mean I’d jump out of a plane without a parachute…
This “law of the jungle” bullshit that privileged white people like to espouse is 100% the result of rampant Dunning-Kruger ignorance of the way the Universe actually functions. The people whose sociopathic greed, absence of empathy, and total lack of imagination have left them well suited for prospering in Western culture think they’re ready to swing with the apes in the mean old jungle, but drop a prosperous white stockbroker naked into a jungle with one of the Baka forest people and see which one is still alive in a week.
The idiot Randroids who whine and snivel about “useless eaters” support the elimination of all government controls… except propertarianism. They are very firm indeed on needing the crutch of armed, violent goons to protect their stuff because somehow that’s outside the law of the jungle, the whole point of which is absence of rules and survival of the strongest and devil take the hindmost.
