Piano.
My mom played a lot of Beatles tunes for my siblings and I.
@ucme- Just in case you want to learn it
Stereo sound from a phonograph.
A live band. I loved feeling and hearing the beat of the drum in my chest.
Bagpipes. Honestly. My father brought a recording home from the library when I was about six and put it on the phonograph. I loved it. I had no idea what it was or what its cultural significance was, but I was instantly thrilled to the core.
The first time I heard Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Overture on a cassette tape at my grandmother’s house when I was 8. I had heard classical music before that but I was blown away by this piece and it changed my opinion of classical music forever (I might not be such a fan today if it hadn’t been for that).
Tiny little peep peeps from hatchling chicks. It is so much daintier than the fervent sounds coming from other bird babies making their constant demands for food.
The hammer and echo of woodpeckers at work.
The crackles of my dad popping open peanut shells.
The way gravel crunches under tires as a car inches forward or back to park.
Hearing my parents laugh to Johnny Carson’s monologue as I drift off to sleep.
Bullfrog baritone voices filling a summer night.
“Tequila Sunrise”. How evocative.
