I recently saw Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened, about the Stephen Sondheim musical flop Merrily We Roll Along, which debuted in 1981 and quickly closed after just a few performances.

I’m always looking for new documentaries to see, so I’ll be following this thread. :)

This one about the Alphago AI.
I have it in the background every once in a while.

I watched one on ewepube yesterday.
It was about what would happen to Earth if humans suddenly disappeared.
There was no reason given for our random & rapid extinction, literally we were gone in a flash.
It was very good though, focused on how, at first, all hell breaks loose.
Nature gradually reclaims the planet & all is well again, peaceful.
I felt so sorry for the pet dogs having to break out of their former owner’s homes or else they’d starve.
Had to quickly become full predators, attacking & eating cattle & whatever they could sink their teeth into.
Ran for 90mins or so, interesting stuff.

found it

“Harold and Lillian” – a great documentary for anyone who loves movies. It’s the story of two backstage Hollywood icons – he was a storyboard artist and then production designer and she was a top researcher for movie studios. Lively, sweet and sharp with great insight into how movies are made.

I’m a big fan of documentaries. Check out “Prodigal Sons” -here’s the website: http://www.prodigalsonsfilm.com/

“Crash Reel” is about a world famous snowboarder and the traumatic brain injury he received.

“Three Identical Strangers” is about triplets who grew up separately and how they came to find each other as young adults, and the fame that ensued.

I saw “Tiger King” before it got so famous. I liked it a lot. Fascinating how weird these people are.

The Michael Jackson documentary, not sure what it’s called but it was interesting.

“The Laundromat” is a short documentary starring Meryl Streep that explains money laundering.

“20 Feet from Stardom” is about the backup singers for famous bands, and “The Quiet One” is about the Rolling Stones.

“Catfish” is about someone who got sucked into a relationship online which turned out to be not what it appeared. I’ve never seen the TV show “Catfish” but the documentary is what started it all.

If you’re into true crime, “The Jinx” is about Robert Durst and is a multipart HBO documentary. “The Staircase” is about a wife who was found dead and the trial that uncovered what happened.

Sometimes if I want something mindless, I’ll watch a true crime documentary about a famous murder case, like the Lacey Peterson case or something like that. It’s always interesting how the story unfolds into the trial.

I record a lot of PBS Nature and Nova episodes. One of my favorites was re-run recently – Naledi: One Little Elephant” It’s the story of an elephant born in a sanctuary in Botswana. Her mother dies and she needs a lot of human care to become a member of the herd and finally to go into the wild. Topical – at one point she needs a ventilator like a coronavirus patient.

I also signed up for the free trial of Apple TV to watch The Elephant Queen about a Kenyan herd. There wasn’t much else I wanted to see so I’ll cancel before the one week trial ends.

I forgot this one, 2005 documentary “Commune.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commune_(film)

Really gives a good idea of what life was like on the commune, Black Bear Ranch in northern California.

“Once Were Brothers” about Robbie Robertson and The Band was great. Another really fantastic one was “Fantastic Fungi” about the world of mushrooms and how important they are.

@janbb -I really like Robbie Robertson. Is that the documentary by Martin Scorsese?

@lucillelucillelucille Yes, and it’s very sweet.
