Have you ever had rhubarb?
And did you like it? What did it taste like?

I’ve grown it, made rhubarb strawberry custard pies. My aunt’s recipe. Also had rhubarb compote.
I’ve had rhubarb pie, and I really like it.
I think it tasted a little like cherry pie, but the last time I had it, was about 50 years ago.
Love, love, love rhubarb pie.
My mother used to stew it with a ton and a half of sugar. I was a suspicious kid and didn’t like to eat anything that looked (mince pie*) or sounded (mushrooms**) strange. So I dodged it even though my sweet-toothed father adored it.
As an adult, though, I gave Marie Callender’s rhubarb pie a try, and sure enough, I’d missed something. It was wonderful. One night I ate half a pie, warm, with a generous scoop of Baskin-Robbins French vanilla on top.
Wouldn’t dare eat it now, though, in all its sweet-and-sour magnificence. I’d die of the sugar.

* If it were any good, why would it look like that?
** If it were any good, why would they give it a name like “mushroom”?
Hmm, it seems I answered this once before, including the prospect of a fatal dose. At that time, I said, “I’d almost rather die of rhubarb pie than die laughing.”
Now, there’s an idea.
Mrs Squeeky makes rhubarb pie, rhubarb cobbler, rhubarb strawberry pie all very good.
Mainly just in pies, I think. Mostly really really good in pies, with fruit.
What kind of fruit @Zaku?
Strawberries usually, but also cherries or raspberries, probably others.
Yes, I learned to love it in England and make it sometimes here. It is very sour so you do need to cook it with a lot of sugar. I generally stew it like a compote and sometimes add it to a strawberry or apple pie. But my favorite way to have it, and one of my favorite desserts, is a rhubarb crumble with custard. The crumble topping is like streusel, basically butter and sugar and a little flour put on top to form a crisp topping.
My mom was nuts about it. I didn’t like it because I’m not into tart, and I wasn’t impressed with the texture. I loved helping her gather it though. I thought those humongous leaves were cool. I used to pretend feather dance around the garden like women I had seen in movies. My mom tried to tell me quit, but her laughing always egged me on.
The smell of the pie baking was yummy. If coffee perked at the same time it was oh my! But I didn’t like the taste of either. Go figure.
I don’t like coffee either @Patty_Melt/ And it smells like skunk.
I dipped the edges in sugar. Was delicious. Our family only ate the red parts.
