Should I cover hostas if it is going to get to 32 degrees tonight?

Asked by josie (30934points) May 11th, 2020

I have a few in pots on the patio, a couple in a bed by the front porch. Weather forecast maybe 32 degrees tonight.

I might bring the pots inside if you can but I wouldn’t worry too much about the ones in the ground. Hostas are pretty hardy in my opinion. Besides, they’d probably resent being masked!

I never bother covering them and we had 2” of snow last night.Mine are all in the ground though so the roots aren’t freezing in the pots. I doubt yours will be damaged.
They are tough plants.
Btw, you could probably divide them and get more plants. Now or in the fall.

Thanks!
I’m not much of a gardner

I grow hostas because I heard they could handle a plant klutz like me.

They will survive, they may wilt but will come back.. I know I have some far from the house that got nipped the other night. Ones by foundation are fine.
