Can one get a great suntan in the winter with a large magnifying glass?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24892points) May 14th, 2020

Just wondering. How big must it be and how high off of the ground, and how expensive?

You could only burn yourself in one spot. But why can’t you get a tan in the winter, and why would anyone want to get a ‘tan’ anyway?

A tanning bed would be cheaper & safer as far as getting burned is concerned!!! Doctors will now tell you that tanning is bad for you. My great aunt worshiped the sun. She spent a minimum of 4 hours a day tanning in her back yard. When she grew older her skin was extremely dry & leathery looking & her wrinkles looked like black streaks in her skin. She passed away at 98 & NEVER had skin cancer!!! I guess my question would be, WHY would you need to tan all year round???

My best tans have been from November to mid March n the Northern Hemisphere. And I have never been under a giant magnifying glass.

I will get tan on a beach vacation or while snow skiing.

@LadyMarissa
Maybe then skin cancer is caused by the lotions that one slathers on while having a tan?
Much like bacon grease, frying.

@Inspired_2write ”...skin cancer is caused by the lotions”

Please don’t spread that kind of misinformation. Skin Cancer is known to be caused by over exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

@RedDeerGuy1 Given where you live, it would be pretty damn hard to get a decent tan in the winter, since at Solstice your day was only 7 hours and 41 minutes.

The angle of the Sun at your latitude makes it very hard to even feel warm, let alone get a tan.
