I’m looking for inexpensive, good quality, and I don’t need any extras like vmail or call waiting. I want unlimited calls local and long distance, if it includes international that would be great, but not necessary. I don’t care if I have to drop my current number and get a new one.
I don’t have copper lines, so I guess it has to be through my internet service? My husband wants to switch to Xfinity, and they don’t offer phone here so I am exploring, Vonage, MagicJack, and alike.
I appreciate any information you have on the topic.

I have had Optimum (I don’t know if you get it there) and have been very satisfied with them for many years.
I have Vonage and can’t complain.
I confused Xfinity offers phone in every place I know. Where is it that they dropped phone/talk ?
PhonePower VOIP. Had them for years. Averages to $6.50/month
Where are you that Xfinity doesn’t have phone that is part of every bundle that I know ????
The phone is a throw in and no cost to the cable company. They don’t need the big exchanges (switches and cables) it is on a computer somewhere.
I’ve had Ooma for the last 6 years or so. You have to buy their telo connection box that costs around $99.00; but, the monthly service fee is based on the taxes you have to pay where you live. My monthly bill is $3.51. In place of buying their phones, I used my Panasonic cordless phones that I was using with AT&T. I have a phone in my den, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom for the $3.51. Depending on your needs, they have add-on items such as a device to extend your phone to a wall outlet so you can add a dedicated fax line if you need it. They also have a wireless add-on for about $50 to purchase that’s included in the $3.51 monthly charge. They send your info to your local emergency call center so when you dial 911, your info pops up on the dispatcher’s screen. They also offer some security features for your home that I haven’t tried but they sounds interesting. So far, including any equipment that I’ve purchased, I’ve saved over $5,000 by dropping AT&T
The only drawback that I’ve found is that when the power goes out or the internet goes down, the phone doesn’t work. That’s when I use my cell. They don’t have local offices so it’s up to you to do any necessary troubleshooting. They will walk you through everything and I’ve not been out of service due to anything worse than a power failure/internet outage. I don’t do international calling so I’ve not tested that. I think that they do offer it and there might be an additional fee for that service. At the time I signed up you could port your home number for free as long as your carrier agreed to it. AT&T refused to allow me to keep my old number, so I was directed to a list of numbers local to my area and I chose the number that I liked best. They allowed me 2 numbers for the same monthly fee. I used one for my home phone and one for my Avon business. You can block any phone numbers that you don’t want to receive which comes in handy with spam calls. They may make it through once, but that’s it. I go to my online dashboard and block them for future calls. I have my number transferred to my cell so I still get all my calls even when away from home or those times the power or internet is out.
I live in The Villages, FL. The zip code is 32163 if you want to look at the page. I also chatted with a representative online. The rep said they will be getting it, but I have my doubts. Xfinity has been here for years.
@JLeslie I’ve have Xfinity contact with them, they wanted me to connect with their phone service. All I needed at the time was Cable TV. Cell phone and didn’t need internet
I mean twice a month mailings. I looked up Villages and it says they have phone. That must be frustrating.
@Tropical_Willie They don’t have phone at my address, maybe they do in other parts of The Villages, it is a very big community/city. The Villages is something like 6 miles across and 15 miles north to south.
I’ve had Xfinity with the phone service other places I have lived, but right now they don’t have it. When I look up my address on the website there is no phone option and like I said on the chat the rep also said there is no phone available. I have phone with the company I am with now.
I use Credo Mobile because they give to progressive organizations while every other phone company I’ve seen is all for profit and gives to conservative political organizations. Also because their behavior and policies seem much nicer than what I saw from AT&T.
They use the Sprint network.
