In your opinion how do think the States are looking to the rest of the world?

Asked by SQUEEKY2 (23475points) May 31st, 2020

This your opinion no right or wrong answers no matter who agrees or disagree with you.
With Trumps leadership, Covid 19, the huge death numbers due to Covid19, pulling out of the W-H-O, the riots, how do you think the rest of the world is viewing the states right now?

Like a bunch of buffoons.

We already know that China is saying “look at the US” as its reasoning for taking over Hong Kong.

We know that Merkel and the G7 don’t want to come here because they think Trump is a foul leader and they don’t want to support him.

We know that for the last 3 years, the rest of the world has had no respect for the US, militarily, diplomatically, or other.

Trump has single handedly turn the US into a third world country. Thanks, Republicans.

There can be little doubt regarding the precipitous decline of the United States relative to the family of first world nations. The apparent urgency of the Trump administration to destroy all operational credibility of the executive branch is without precedent. The wreckage to
every agency necessary to the conduct of foreign affairs mirrors the destruction of the executive branch overall, and the devastation has reduced the United States to the wrecking ball of the world. The country now has the unenviable role of functioning as swinging solely for destruction, with the nations of the world no longer looking our way for positive interactions, let alone any semblance of leadership. Rather than looking to us for example, our friends and allies now strive mightily just to stay out of the way of the careening and stumbling rudderless behemoth bent only toward malevolence and usurpation. The stupid and visibly corrupt President supposedly at the wheel, has proven a beacon of inspiration for criminality and turpitude world wide as his corruption disgraces his office to the interminable embarrassment of us all.

Full of rage, shame, and rank stupidity. Or so I suppose.

I think our present state brings out some very unbecoming gloating in some folks abroad. And maybe we did have it coming. But others recognize that as a people most of us are not defined by our present leadership; and some have the grace to miss us and grieve for us.

Whatever you think of the US, plenty of people on Earth would rather be here than where they are and would be glad to take your spot.

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

I’d have to agree with @josie.

I didn’t start this question to start an argument I really only want peoples opinions on the subject, and if you gave your true opinion then thanks.

IMHO the bad people any/every race or color are trying to get the upper hand. Chaos. Not racist. It is all for power and control. We look like and are a nation out of control of law.

Nations looking at one another are likely looking in interest, compassion, practicality and prayer/deep contemplation for a positive outcome. I believe these traits will become more apparent as each nation gets a firm handle on their misfortunes. There is word circulating that EU’s Ireland has reached out to certain Native Americans in these troubling times- it is a beautiful thing,if true. I foresee acts of kindness and niceties being more obvious and frequent between Nations.

I believe that the whole world views the U.S. ,especially the present President, as untrustworthy.

Trumps decisions change as the wind changes. He clearly was not prepared to be President, and these last few years it was difficult learning process for not only him but the U.S. people as well as the World.

stanleybmanly's avatar

@Jeruba We indeed have (and deserve) the wrath of the world for foisting so monumental a travesty upon it. The gloating is in places like Russia and North Korea where despots point gleefully toward our fool and yell “See!”.

That is what I was wondering when I asked this question @stanleybmanly , The Mighty US has a wanna be Dictator at the wheel and calls other dictators bad.

I think most of the world is currently licking their own wounds.
As far as trust, I don’t trust the China government one bit. On that I agree entirely with POTUS.
Since covid is not behaving like a virus, and circulated rapidly, and spread to the corners of the world before China had anything to say, I am thinking warning shot from China in a bid for world domination.
Since we were hit so hard, it is an attempt to make us not a place to turn to.

Everywhere else, is focused much closer to home.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

Interesting opinion there @Patty_Melt ,I don’t trust the China government either, but I also don’t trust the American one as well.
World domination might be a stretch but it is your opinion and that is what I wanted so thank you.

Patty_Melt's avatar

Perhaps I used the wrong expression. World domination would mean to some having one nut job running the planet.
There are more mafioso ways of domination like an umbrella threat to control commerce and religion.
With the appearance of government in each country.

I think it’s hard not to project our own feelings onto an opinion like this, but I imagine the majority of the rest of the world is looking at us with pity or empathy. Not at our leadership, but as citizens? I think people just feel bad for us.

josie's avatar

I can’t prove it but I suspect that more than a few of the people on this thread have not been to very many other parts of the world except maybe Vancouver
or Cancun something.

The people you are wondering about don’t feel bad for you.
In fact,
They wish they were you, in spite of your defeatism.

If they suddenly became you, they would reject your defeatism and wonder what was wrong with you.

I was curious about what would happen if a billionaire became president? I burned a wish to find out. I am still curious.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

@Josie That is your opinion I don’t agree, but it is your opinion so thank you.

A friend and a relative overseas think trump is bad for America.

My best guess…most of those people who are more knowledgeable about US history, especially re politics are wondering WTF happened to America, electing a hotel and casino businessman and TV show host to the WH?

stanleybmanly's avatar

I don’t need to travel any further than to the airport. Actually I cannot hold a conversation with a foreigner anywhere for any length of time without the inevitable question “what the fk is wrong with you Americans?” Never in my 76 years can I recall a single American President unable to visit allied countries without generating jeering mobs. The only places he dares show his face without derisive crowds are those where brutal suppression of public opinion are par for the course. The revulsion for the man is not a matter of my imagination. Those mounting the ridiculous claim that the fool’s reputation is actually the invention of a biased press should have a look at the contempt for the dummy in the international press where our deranged dumbbell is jeered with the contempt he more than deserves.

I think they look at us the way the majority of the citizens of the US look at our selves….“What The Fuck Just Happened.”

@SQUEEKY2:

If only he did. He loves them and praises them. They understand each other. They’re made of the same stuff. Only most of them are smart and not just crafty, and they know how to manipulate him.

A stage magician of my acquaintance used to say that the easiest people to trick with his illusions were other magicians, because they thought they couldn’t be fooled.

Jeruba's avatar

Hmm, wait, I think I said that wrong. ^^ I think he used to say it was fraud busters, bunco squads and other law enforcement officers who specialize in swindles and cheats and deceptions. Not fellow magicians. In any case, they thought they couldn’t be fooled, and that made them easy marks.

Dictators and autocrats know just which buttons to push with Trump.

SQUEEKY2's avatar

That’s OK @Jeruba we will forgive ya.
