Have you seen NEOWISE ?

Asked by zenvelo (39548points) July 19th, 2020

Last evening I went to a local “dark” spot about an hour and twenty minutes north of San Francisco, getting there just after sunset. It took until ten o’clock to get dark enough to really see stars, but we got to see the comet NEOWISE!

And, behind us some planets were quite visible. If you get up before sunrise this week and have a clear horizon, there are five planets visible!

Not in person. I’ve seen awesome pictures of it tho.
I took a picture of Halley’s comet in 1986.

It’s been too cloudy here. Makes me sad.

“Neowise”. And yes, I’ve seen it. I haven’t bothered photographing it, though as there are about a bajillion better pictures out there.

No, I have not. It’s been cloudy here most of the time and I don’t have good sightlines from my place anyway.

Yes. We went out early last week (13th?) and looked to the north north west over Lake Ontario. Naked eye, the tail was a full 10 degrees (one fist width) long. Cool!

No, I haven’t but I have seen a telescope in the back room when I let the dog out.:P
Thanks for the info

My husband and I went to a beach a mile from our home Sunday evening and spent two hours staring at the sky and Neowise. I also so a meteorite. It was the best night I’ve had in a long time.
