You’re probably going to hear a lot say Freddie Mercury.
I reckon Johnny Cash has the most unique, instantly recognisable voice.

@lucillelucillelucille Smoke damaged vocals.
How about him?

lucillelucillelucille's avatar

@ucme – I was distracted by the pants-free drummers. Then I got distracted by the festive whistle.
I just don’t know!

Tiny Tim.

Wouldn’t it be Elvis Presley? I’ve been to ~countries and have never failed to spot Elvis souvenirs on sale somewhere. This is a man who died 40+ years ago.

@Pied_Pfeffer -I can’t believe I forgot about him. XD

Of course Freddie Mercury!
Maybe Jon Bon Jovi, too.

Freddie Mercury’s voice was not at all recognizable as distinctive.

I’d say Elvis Costello or Willie Nelson

Patsy Cline ..others have tried to copy her voice but none can replicate.

She died in a plane crash 1963.

On March 5, 1963, country music performers Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins died in the crash of their plane near Camden, Tenn., along with pilot Randy Hughes, who was Cline’s manager and a much-sought-after studio guitarist). Cline was only 30 years old.Mar 5, 2019

@ucme You must be fucking daft, mate. Freddie Mercury’s voice was so undistinguished, they could fake it for the movie.

World Wide, I would have to say it is between Micheal Jackson. or Elton John. I can think of others that are either well recognized in Latin nations or in the US , like Elvis Presley, or Nat King Cole. But globally I think Jackson was way more famous globally and his songs were even sung in English in non-English speaking nations.

anniereborn's avatar

@Pandora Are you talking about their songs or their voices?

Pandora's avatar

Both. Because their songs are popular worldwide their voices have become recognizable to most of the world. I can tell Micheal Jacksons and Elton Johns voices just from hearing them speak where there are a lot of other singers who sound very different from their speaking voice when they sing. Dean Martin was like that as well. He had a smooth tone to his voice when he spoke and sang. But I heard his voice since I was little. I still remember what it sounds like. Not sure people worldwide would’ve recognized his voice. You have to be very popular first so people get to know what you sound like and when you speak your pronunciation and accent and tone have to be the same.
