What artwork do you seek out when at a museum?
Asian art is usually the first for me.

I’ve never been to an art museum. I had to take Art Appreciation and Art History in college though. Hated it honestly.
I am most strongly drawn to European art, especially 19th century paintings and Dutch masters; but it really depends on the museum. I’ve spent a lot of time among Greek, Egyptian, and Asian sculptures, artifacts such as carved jade and gold jewelry, and Chinese and Japanese paintings.
If it’s a museum that I visit repeatedly, I zero in on my favorite pieces, and I like to take some things in a certain order. It bothers me when something I’m used to seeing has been moved or withdrawn, even though I know there are good reasons for doing that. I hated that the Boston MFA moved the massive statue of King Menkaura from its place at the top right of the main staircase to some unknown location. I couldn’t find it the last time I was there. It had been my first stop since I was a teenager. Now, I’m sorry to say, it’s years between visits.
For the most part, I now will roam a museum looking for the “surprises”.
It’s more about the museum I’ll seek out in order to see a certain kind of art. There are periods and styles of art I like more, but at some museums, they’re completely absent so I know what I’m getting into and what kind of art it has to offer when I go to a museum. I will say that I am most interested in paintings, not as interested in sculpture or other “displays”.
Romanticism and Landscape art, for sure.
I like Dali…he was gloriously mad!
Portraits. Any portraits.
I’m drawn to & by the surrealists, such as Dolly, Magritty, and Bosch.
I’m inexorably drawn to pay a visit to the porcelain, and any tang is always a bonus.
I’m really up for seeing anything, but will skip over the Ancient Greek and Egyptian stuff as I studied it to death in art college.
I’m drawn to natural landscapes whenever I go to art museums, especially the work of Thomas Cole, John Constable, J.M.W. Turner, and Winslow Homer
If we assume painting, I like Van Gogh
