Does anyone get heart palpitations?
I’m told there is nothing serious about my heart palpitations and yet I hate feeling that I’m always thinking of my heart and wish I could stop. Doctor says I’m okay and as long as this doesn’t happen every day then I shouldn’t worry. Advice anyone?

Just the opposite my heart rate can drop to 48 or 50. But normal resting heart rate is 68 to 70 and with heavy exercise maybe it will get 120. Please follow doctor’s orders.
When you say palpitations do you mean it’s beating very fast?
Do you feel it pounding in your chest or more like fluttering/quivering? Is it actually beating faster when you feel it?
Does it happen throughout the day, or only when you are resting?
Do you have a hypo or hyper thyroid problem? If not, did your doctor test your thyroid? It would be TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) on your blood work.
When you say doctor, do you mean a GP or a cardiologist?
Do you feel short of breath when it happens?
It can be serious, so just get a second opinion.
I’ve been living with heart palpitations for over 20 years. Sometimes they have become relentless and rapid (up to 1 palpitation every 2 or 3 normal heart beats but most of the time I get one palpitation every 20 to 60 normal heart beats). There are different kinds of palpitations. Cardiologists call mine “PAC’s” (pre atrial contractions). Other people have palpitations called PVC’s (pre ventricular contractions). The heart is very complex and is effected by what’s going on within the heart (faulty valves, clogged arteries, damaged cardiac muscle etc.) in the rest of the body (thyroid issues, hormone issues). Diet and the use of drugs and a stressful life style are also factors. It takes a complete exam of the heart and body to determine a cause. Sometime no cause can be determined.
I’m in the group that no apparent cause has been found for my heart palpitations and other heart arrhythmias that I suffer from (a-fib and a-flutter). Doctors call that “Lone” a-fib and palpitations because it’s all by itself with no contributing conditions.
Advice? I’m not a doctor. But if your palpitation become very rapid and or you feel pain then seek expert medical care right away. Also try to eliminate caffeine, alcohol and other recreational drugs. Also try relaxation techniques including meditation and yoga. That has been helpful to me. Also if you have a high stress job (like I had) then consider changing career if possible.
