Why do lottery commercials show winners the option of owning ones own island? (P&R)

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24946points) August 22nd, 2020

Would you be happy with your own island? How would one go about buying the rights from the government to own the island fully? Thereby making ones own country.

humor welcome.

I have no idea about rights but hell yes. I mean, assuming I had all the money for taxes.

I love the water and I love being isolated in nature so if it is an island with lots of trees I will be happy

@SergeantQueen Thanks. I would like my own country in the form of an island or skyscraper. I would have a pizza and Amazon free trade agreement with Canada.

I think I would try and stay out of politics as much as possible. I want that to be a chill island

@SergeantQueen Cool. I would like not to mess with religion and politics. Unless it was fun. Which probably means I would be alone and free to live in peace.

@SergeantQueen We could join alliances.

@RedDeerGuy1 Sure. I call dibs on , dictator for life.

I tagged myself in my own response. I mean to tag you. I call dibs on being the Queen, obviously. I also want to be in charge of the flag design.

I want to be the psychologist who helps those who need it. ~{;o)

Aside from that, what the hell is “P&R”? Politics & Religion??

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

@smudges Yes. Being in charge of ones own island can eventually lead to our own political and religious matters being raised. I called dibs on dictator for life and someone will eventually—make- claim a religious position.

@RedDeerGuy1 Thanks. It’s the only thing I could think of, but couldn’t quite place it in terms of a private island, probably because my island would only have a few choice people besides me.

@RedDeerGuy1, I’m counting on you to keep it secular. Introduce religion, and conflict is guaranteed. Go read up on how to be a Philosopher-King, and assign Guardians to look after the people’s well-being, and we can have a nice Platonic Republic on your island.

Having ones own island is a heavy responsibility.
One has to have training in emergency situations. ( wildfires, flood, hospital care, etc)
There is more to survival than sitting on an island ..first thing to learn is an escape plan in case of natural disasters etc
We all need another one way or another as the statement goes“No man is an island…”
