How can I make my "Asus ZenDrive 13mm ultra slim and light external dvd writer SDRW-08U7M" to be discoverable in my PC (details inside)?

Asked by RedDeerGuy1 (24945points) August 23rd, 2020

My computer is a desktop Windows 10 Intel core i5 7th gen.

I tried the Asus website and it was not helpful .

I’ve spent hours trying to figure do to trouble shoot my external DVD player.

The power works and it starts to read a DVD then quits. I have tried several different disks. It isn’t discoverable through my PC.

I want to download Sid Meiers Beyond Earth and the sequel Rising Tide.

Could be so many things.

Is your PC a laptop or a desktop? In most laptops, the USB drives have varying amounts of power – if you are plugging the USB drive into a low-powered USB port, it would cause the issue you describe. If that’s the case, plug it into a different USB port.

But it could be a hundred other things as wll.

@elbanditoroso Desktop. It works best when one of the two USB ports are used.

You might be able to get more information using this nice 3rd party USB device info viewer, free and available here: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html

Have you tried a different USB cord? My wife had trouble with her DVD-Drive, it was a cord problem.

@all It worked. I tried different USB slots in different combinations. Took me 9 hours to figure it out.
