Is there any point in writing songs if you can’t sing or play an instrument?

Asked by rockfan (14632points) August 23rd, 2020 from iPhone

I have tons of song ideas, but I get a little discouraged to write them because I can’t sing or play an instrument. I get kind of depressed to think that all that work will never get sung. What do you think?

Someone else can play/sing it for you. And that might be very rewarding hearing your work get turned into a song. Plenty of people are songwriters only and don’t play or write.

It might be handy to learn some piano skills or something to help aid in your songwriting creations. But you don’t need to be an expert at them.

Keep writing.

I can be done but one must be able to hear the music in one’s head. And a song can be written as a poem that some other person might set to music.

Ask Bernie Taupin.

@rockfan Do you write lyrics only, or are you able to write a tune, too? If you can do both, find some musicians thaw will perform your song. I know of a few here in the SF Bay Area that will consider songs written by others.

@zenvelo

I only write the lyrics

Granted, that sort of thing use to be more prevalent back in the day, but that industry for lyricists (whether they sing/play or not) is still out there.
