How different do you think politics would be if the politicians were 100% honest?

And by 100% honest, I mean that they would say exactly what they meant and they wouldn’t lie about their opponent.
Do you think people would care less? I mean, they could listen to one speech on YouTube from each politician and they could learn his/her platform from just one speech, rather than trying to piece together possible truths and outright lies.
Would we have more than two candidates running for the presidency, or, for that matter, any political office? How would people’s general views on politics change? From cynical to…. ?

When I first read your question, I thought ‘wow, that would be great’, but after thinking about it, politics might be even nastier than it is now. People wouldn’t hold their tongues, they’d say exactly what they thought and even though it would make it easier to see a politician’s true nature, I’m sure their would be some very nasty things said.
Part of our national security concerns not letting our enemies know everything that we are doing, to keep our shores safe from invasion.
A totally honest politician would compromise national security, so I would prefer to have one in office, that is somewhat of a rogue.

Hmmm, an honest politician. What a concept!!
A thought just occurred to me…are we being unfair and biased, we all seem to be accepting the generalization that politicians aren’t 100% honest
“Hmmm, an honest politician. What a concept!!”
Not in the REAL world, Scamp.

This may fall into the ‘Be Careful What You Wish For’ camp. Our politicians reflect the fact that we do not live in a very honest society. What would happen if the voters heard themselves referred to as lazy for not voting, ignorant for not boning up on the issues of the economy and apathetic for not caring about critical issues that even impact their lives?
Could we take truth?
I, for one, would prefer it to the current situation—even the painful truths.
about as different as the world would be if people were 100% honest.
100% different.
I would be thrilled to have such a situation. I would much prefer to hear it all, the good, bad and ugly…and then, with all the facts in hand, make my own decisions.
So, how different would YOU be if you told the truth 100%. I think we’d have no friends and (by generalization) politicians, no allies.
I always wonder what it would be like if the people realized that all politicians are mostly dishonest (yes, all – this is irrefutable). The onus is on us to see through the charades. We’ve got a bad track record my friends… :(
@paulc: You are so right!
