Was Michael Clarke Duncan, (John Coffey) in the Green Mile portrayed as Jesus Christ? (P&R)

His characters name was John Coffey. J.C. (Jesus Christ). He healed the Warden Hal Moores, Tom Hanks, and was wrongly executed.

After John Coffey was executed the mouse and the warden became immortal.

Yes, I believe he’s supposed to be a Christ-like figure.

I thought more of an angel but perhaps you’re right. I’ll watch it again.

Literature is full of characters identified as Christ figures. Some of them are probably overinterpreted and not meant that way by the authors. Just about anytime you have someone who becomes a sacrifice, for example, somebody will say “Christ figure,” as if there’d never been another sacrificial lamb.

I think this one was intentional, though, and you’re right, the initials seem to be a pointer.
