Why is it so hard for a 3rd party to get ballot access in all 50 states?

“On Tuesday, September 8th, the State of Rhode Island certified that Jo Jorgensen would appear on the Rhode Island ballot by certifying the Libertarian Party elector slate.”

“The Libertarian Party secured all 50 states’ access in 1992, 1996, and 2000. The Libertarian Party did not ensure 50 states access again until 2016…”

And what the heck is with trying to stop them from debating?
“Even with the 50 states certifying ballot access Jo Jorgensen is unlikely to be invited into the presidential debates. This disenfranchisement stems from extreme levels of collaboration to exclude third parties from the debates committed by the commission on presidential debates. ”

Because they (just a few people) show up every four years to complain about things, but they don’t do squat shit for four years between presidential elections. They don’t run for office in the state legislature, they don’t run for the school board, they don’t try to make a presence in the county.

They don’t do the ground work to organize to get things done.

Not enough of them run for office, to begin with. And those with recognizable names and popularity join another party when they need (as zenvelo stated) a better-organized party.

Perhaps if they actually put in the work and got people in office on all levels, rather than just showing up a the big dance to make noise every 4 years…
